Teach Virtue"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>According to a new study, the virtue of conscientiousness is the only personality trait out of the five building blocks of personality (i.e., openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/335\/2013\/03\/imagesCA77XEDT.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-614\" title=\"imagesCA77XEDT\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/335\/2013\/03\/imagesCA77XEDT-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a>agreeableness, neuroticism) \u00a0that is positively correlated with academic success.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2013\/03\/130319124310.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The higher a person\u2019s score on tests of conscientiousness, the higher that person\u2019s GPA is likely to be.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It isn\u2019t enough to just sit on kids to make them do their homework.\u00a0 The Church teaches that families are schools of love and virtue that enable us to learn all the lessons that help us live life as a gift.\u00a0 Conscientiousness is one of those virtues that parents need to cultivate in their kids if they want to encourage good study habits and better grades.\u00a0 Conscientiousness is defined as the ability to plan ahead, be attentive, and pay attention to details.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to focusing on study habits, encouraging kids to follow through on chores, to do a good job with whatever task they\u2019re given, and to think and plan ahead (for example, by asking them to walk you through their plans for getting things done instead of just telling them what to do) are great ways to help your kids do better in school because all of these\u2013and\u00a0activities like them\u2013tend to cultivate conscientiousness.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013For more tips on raising great Catholic kids, check out<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to a new study, the virtue of conscientiousness is the only personality trait out of the five building blocks of personality (i.e., openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism) \u00a0that is positively correlated with academic success.\u00a0 The higher a person\u2019s score on tests of conscientiousness, the higher that person\u2019s GPA is likely to be.
