Texas governor and Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry is airing a new campaign ad<\/a> pledging to stop President Barack Obama\u2019s war on religion.\u00a0 $\"\"$ <\/a>The Governor\u2019s ad laments that gays can serve openly in the military (to die for their country by the way), but kids can\u2019t pray in schools or celebrate Christmas.<\/p>\n

The Governor makes an odd charge considering that one of his key supporters doesn\u2019t think much of Mormons<\/a>.\u00a0 Only after being asked if he thought Mormons were Christian did Gov. Perry give a weak, indirect rebuke of his supporter\u2019s comments by acknowledging that Mormons were Christian.<\/p>\n

Another close supporter of the Governor is vehemently anti-Catholic<\/a>.\u00a0 In 2011, Gov. Perry gave a highly provocative pastor a key role at his prayer <\/a> $\"\"$ <\/a>rally.\u00a0 The pastor believes Catholicism is \u201cgodless.\u201d\u00a0 This is one of the more charitable descriptions the pastor uses.<\/p>\n

The Governor\u2019s ad is also inaccurate.\u00a0 Children can pray in school.\u00a0 They can say grace at lunch time, wear religious clothes or jewelry, observe a moment of silence before class for private prayer, and participate in the thousands of Bible clubs in public schools throughout the country.\u00a0 Christmas trees can be displayed and religious music<\/a> can be and often is included in holiday programs.<\/p>\n

If there\u2019s a war on religion in America then who is to blame?<\/p>\n

Incidentally, the Governor<\/a> said that God told him to run for president.\u00a0 According to Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann<\/a>, she had a calling from God to run for president.\u00a0 And Herman Cain<\/a> said God also told him to run for president.<\/p>\n

If true then God has a peculiar sense of humor.\u00a0 I can\u2019t speak for others, but I don\u2019t get the joke.<\/p>\n
