By the looks of things around this blog, you\u2019d think that my writing is slowing down. But behind the scene (or should I say screen?), a different thing is happening. <\/p>\n

I\u2019ve started writing longhand again. Sometimes I type\u00a0up a polished\u00a0version. Sometimes not. I\u2019m writing more letters \u2013 you know, the kind\u00a0a recipient\u00a0can touch, smell, and stumble reading through because\u00a0it\u2019s been a decade\u00a0since he or she has\u00a0read cursive. The kind with a stamp attached. A return address. A worn corner from spending days en route to\u00a0a near or far away\u00a0destination. <\/p>\n

I\u2019m writing longhand, in part, because I started getting anxious\u00a0anytime I sat behind the computer. I type as fast as lightening, but my brain writes as slow as a rising, morning sun. And that blasted cursor blinks, blinks, blinks, and I want to slap it slap it like a red-headed step child \u2013 not that I would ever slap a red-headed step-child.\u00a0If my fingers aren\u2019t typing, I feel pressure. If my pen isn\u2019t touching the paper, I feel patience. <\/p>\n

No pressure<\/em>, the paper whispers to me. Take your time.<\/em> <\/p>\n

And so, all the\u00a0wicked-cute notebooks I received for Shaun\u2019s Pastor Appreciation back in October are being filled up one sentence at a time. I\u00a0enjoy this antiquated method of writing. It agrees with\u00a0me. It\u2019s as if\u00a0I\u2019m writing to a friend rather than a boss or teacher or \u2026 gulp!<\/em> \u2026 publisher. So from now on, writing takes place on paper, typing and editing take place on \u2018puter. One is creative. One is a necessary evil. <\/p>\n

Three cheers for\u00a0cramped hands\u00a0and knobby, calloused, ink-stained fingers. And the trees. God bless the trees for giving up their life so mine might be richer. <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
