us meet life in silence. It makes<\/p>\n
me think of a caveman drumming<\/p>\n
a stone with a stick while his brother<\/p>\n
draws his bow but fails to shoot be-<\/p>\n
cause he loses himself in the bison<\/p>\n
grazing. Perhaps the playing of<\/p>\n
images in the dark and the play-<\/p>\n
ing of music while we watch is all<\/p>\n
to keep us from shooting. I think<\/p>\n
the brother who loses himself and<\/p>\n
Eileen\u2019s aunt playing Brahms in the<\/p>\n
dark are of the same tribe. Last night<\/p>\n
we went next door for a glass of wine<\/p>\n
with Stacy and Anders and their blind<\/p>\n
collie Kai broke my heart open a little<\/p>\n
further. He noses gently about every-<\/p>\n
thing and watching him find his way<\/p>\n
about the yard in the late sun feels<\/p>\n
like you and me when we put down<\/p>\n
our masks. Only when we rush do<\/p>\n
we bump and break things. Kai\u2019s<\/p>\n
soft, wide eyes search in their dark-<\/p>\n
ness for the shelf of late light and<\/p>\n
finding something, he rests his head<\/p>\n
in the open air, in the warm hand<\/p>\n
of eternity, feeling safe in a light<\/p>\n
