If that does, indeed, turn out to be the case, then \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2026 28 films released in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/yearly\/chart\/?yr=2007&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">2007<\/a> will have crossed the $100 million line.  This is better than almost every year on record, with the single exception of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/yearly\/chart\/?yr=2003&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">2003<\/a>, when 29 films crossed that line.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/yearly\/chart\/?yr=2002&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">2002<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/yearly\/chart\/?yr=2004&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">2004<\/a> are tied for third place, with 24 such films apiece.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 11 films released in 2007 will have crossed the $200 million line.  This easily beats the previous record of 8 such films, set in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/yearly\/chart\/?yr=2005&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">2005<\/a>.  Third place goes to 2002, when there were 7 such films.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 4 films released in 2007 will have crossed the $300 million line.  This beats the record of 3 such films, set in 2002 and tied in 2003 and 2004.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 no films released in 2007 will have crossed the $400 million line.  One film per year accomplished this in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/yearly\/chart\/?yr=1997&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">1997<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/yearly\/chart\/?yr=1999&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">1999<\/a>, 2002, 2004 and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/yearly\/chart\/?yr=2006&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">2006<\/a>.  <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/12\/stop-look-at-city-pronounce-warn-carry.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Star Wars<\/a><\/i> (1977) and <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/08\/harrison-fords-et-cameo-up-at-youtube.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial<\/a><\/i> (1982) also crossed that line on their 20th anniversaries.<\/p>\n<p>In other news, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/01\/newsbites-blu-ray-no-country-knocked-up.html#2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">No Country for Old Men<\/a><\/i> had $45.3 million in the till as of Wednesday and is thus only a day or two away from passing <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/04\/what-are-best-baptism-scenes-in-film.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">O Brother Where Art Thou?<\/a><\/i> (2000; <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20041107030022\/http:\/\/www.vancourier.com\/issues01\/013a01\/movies1.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">my review<\/a>) to become the top-grossing film ever directed by the Coen brothers.
