DRYDEN: Are you really going to give them artillery, sir?<\/p>\n
BRIGHTON: I was wondering that, sir. Might be deuced difficult to get it back again.<\/p>\n
DRYDEN: Give them artillery and you\u2019ve made them independent.<\/p>\n
ALLENBY: Then I can\u2019t give them artillery, can I?<\/p>\n
DRYDEN: For you to say, sir.<\/p>\n
ALLENBY: No it\u2019s not. I\u2019ve got orders to obey, thank God. Not like that poor devil. He\u2019s riding the whirlwind.<\/p>\n
DRYDEN: Let\u2019s hope we\u2019re not.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
What\u2019s interesting is how the earlier film allows you to think that this attitude (that there are limits to how much aid a military superpower should give to the natives who help it, lest the natives turn that aid back against the superpower that gave it to them) is somewhat condescending or paternalistic, whereas the new film is arguably somewhat sympathetic to this attitude.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
