Predator: Requiem<\/a><\/i>.  As the trailer reached its climax, the Christmas carol \u2018Silent Night\u2019 played ethereally and ironically over images of various violent deeds, and a series of title cards told us \u201cthere will be no peace on Earth\u201d this holiday season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nypost.com\/movies\/archives\/2007\/12\/box_office_alie.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Lou Lumenick<\/a> of the <i>New York Post<\/i> notes that the studio behind the film is explicitly positioning it as a rival to one denomination\u2019s religious observances:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>20th Century Fox offers a novel alternative to midnight mass on Christmas Eve: midnight showings of \u201cAliens vs. Predator: Requieum\u201d an 86-minute horror sequel starring nobody you ever heard of but featuring a cross between the titular creatures. Moviegoers at the Union Square in Manhattan and the Chinese Theater in LA will receive T-shirts emblazoned with \u201cI survived Midnight-Mass-Acre Christmas Eve 2007.\u201d Classy! Does <b><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/catholics-and-secularists-diss-golden.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Bill Donohue<\/a><\/b> know about this?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I am neither Catholic nor a fan of the <i>Alien Vs. Predator<\/i> movies \u2014 I love <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.yahoo.com\/group\/onfilm\/message\/7354\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">the first two <i>Alien<\/i> movies<\/a>, but not the sequels, and I thought the first cross-over film was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/movies\/reviews\/alienvspredator.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">pretty bad<\/a>, though tolerable if you really lowered your expectations \u2014 so I can\u2019t say the new movie\u2019s release pattern clashes with anything on <i>my<\/i> schedule.
