Now that it has been confirmed that Christian Bale<\/a> will play John Connor<\/a> in the next three Terminator<\/a><\/i> films, producers Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek have decided to tease the fans with a few enigmatic quasi-revelations at Entertainment Weekly<\/a><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In contrast to producer James Middleton\u2019s remark three months ago<\/a> that there would be a new central character and John Connor would simply be the guy who \u201cinfluences\u201d him, much as Jesus influenced the lead character in the Ben-Hur<\/a><\/i> movies, Anderson and Kubicek now say that John Connor is a \u201cvery central character throughout the next trilogy\u201d who will \u201clead our franchise forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

And then things begin to get a little more mysterious:<\/p>\n

So he\u2019s the star?
KUBICEK:<\/b> Yes.
ANDERSON:<\/b> There\u2019s gonna be another major costar with kind of equal presence in this installment. <\/p>\n

And that costar would play the Terminator character?
ANDERSON:<\/b> Yes\u2026. Well, it\u2019s hard to say. It is a new character introduced in the mythology that\u2019s not replacing Arnold [Schwarzenegger]. It\u2019s not like he\u2019s stepping into Arnold\u2019s shoes. It\u2019s a completely new character. <\/p>\n

Okay, but is it a<\/i> Terminator \u2014 a killing machine?
ANDERSON:<\/b> No, not really. That\u2019s one of the big twists that if we told you \u2014 <\/p>\n

You\u2019d have to kill me?
KUBICEK:<\/b> [Laughs<\/i>] Yes.
ANDERSON:<\/b> It would ruin the story for you. But there\u2019s an element of humanity to it. It\u2019s a bit different. <\/p>\n

Not to beat a dead horse, but is the new figure Connor\u2019s enemy?
KUBICEK:<\/b> The other lead character is a new figure. [Anderson laughs<\/i>] And it\u2019s questionable if he\u2019s an enemy or not. That\u2019s not necessarily resolved.
ANDERSON:<\/b> It\u2019s a really interesting time in the franchise because it\u2019s where all the fans have always wanted the franchise to go, and it hasn\u2019t to date, which is the post-apocalyptic world. It\u2019s after judgment day. So because we\u2019re in a different time in the mythology, it introduces a whole new set of circumstances and characters.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And of course, none of this will have anything<\/i> to do with the upcoming TV series The Sarah Connor Chronicles<\/a><\/i>, which takes place in a completely different timeline altogether, where the events of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines<\/a><\/i> (2003) never took place and thus the trilogy which follows that film never took place either. (Though I suppose we can never rule out the possibility that the two timelines might be bridged somehow. This is<\/i> science fiction, after all.)
