This post is way, way overdue, but I haven\u2019t mentioned the latest Star Trek<\/a><\/i> casting<\/a> rumours<\/a> yet. Then again, they are<\/i> only rumours, and the closest thing to actual news here is that at least one of the people mentioned has auditioned<\/i> for a part in the film.<\/span><\/p>\n

While the rumours have originated at various sites, for simplicity\u2019s sake, I will stick to the summaries posted at IGN.com.<\/p>\n

First up, Paul McGillion<\/a> of Stargate: Atlantis<\/i> has auditioned for the part of Scotty<\/a> \u2014 and like James Doohan<\/a>, the actor who created the role (and whose son is rooting for McGillion), he is a Canadian who can fake a Scottish accent. McGillion would turn 39 during the film\u2019s production; Doohan was 46 when he created the role.<\/p>\n

Second, Mike Vogel<\/a> of the Poseidon<\/a><\/i> and Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/i> remakes is rumoured to be the \u201cfront runner\u201d for Kirk<\/a>. Vogel is 28; William Shatner<\/a> was 35 when he created the role.<\/p>\n

Finally, Karl Urban<\/a> of The Lord of the Rings<\/a><\/i> and Pathfinder<\/a><\/i> and Doom<\/a><\/i> and The Bourne Supremacy<\/a><\/i> is rumoured to be in the running<\/a> for \u2026 what, exactly? Scotty? McCoy? Pike? The villain? All of these possibilities are raised at IGN.com, but nobody\u2019s saying.
