Kubrick!"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><span style=\"font-family: georgia\">Time for a few more quickies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"1\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">1.<\/a> Remember that animated version of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/05\/ten-commandments-animated-film.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Ten Commandments<\/a><\/i>?  <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.variety.com\/article\/VR1117970785.html?categoryid=13&amp;cs=1&amp;nid=2562\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Variety<\/a><\/i> reports that it is the first in a <i>series<\/i> of Bible cartoons:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.promenadepictures.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Promenade Pictures<\/a> \u2014 the family-oriented banner headed by former studio topper Frank Yablans \u2014 has set the release of its first project, a CG-animated version of \u201cThe Ten Commandments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Promenade announced Thursday it will open \u201cCommandments,\u201d the first of a 12-pic \u201cEpic Stories of the Bible\u201d series, on Oct. 26 at 500-800 playdates.<\/p>\n<p>Promenade, which has stayed under the radar prior to the announcement, said it\u2019s positioned to distribute four to six pics a year from its own slate, acquisitions and service deals with independents. Promenade pics will carry budgets in the $5 million-$20 million range.<\/p>\n<p>Each film in the \u201cEpic Stories of the Bible\u201d series will be produced by Promenade along with partners Huhu Studios of New Zealand and Singapore-based iVL Animation, owned by ST Electronics. . . .<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a name=\"2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">2.<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cinematical.com\/2007\/08\/21\/casting-bites-nutcrackers-beasts-and-much-much-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Cinematical<\/a> says Luke Wilson and Jessica Walter are currently shooting <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1029120\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Henry Poole Is Here<\/a><\/i>, a film about \u201ca depressed and terminally-ill man whose life is changed by a miracle \u2014 seeing a stain on the wall that looks like the face of Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"3\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">3.<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dvdactive.com\/news\/releases\/stanley-kubrick-collection2.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">DVD Active<\/a> says the upcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000UJCAKO\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Stanley Kubrick boxed set<\/a> will include the first-ever North American release of the uncut version of <i>Eyes Wide Shut<\/i> (1999).  What on earth took them so long.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"4\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">4.<\/a> <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/servlet\/story\/RTGAM.20070823.wlbbffs23\/BNStory\/lifeFamily\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Globe and Mail<\/a><\/i> says movies like <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0829482\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Superbad<\/a><\/i> are encouraging more public displays of affection between regular guys:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>McKenzie Smith and Josh Parsons love each other.<\/p>\n<p>The 15-year-old Toronto boys admitted as much after leaving a recent showing of the film <i>Superbad<\/i>, a hit comedy two other Canadian friends started writing when they were just 13. . . .<\/p>\n<p>Swearing to stay friends forever is usually the domain of teenage girls, who promise weekly phone calls and undying devotion.<\/p>\n<p>Adolescent boys, on the other hand, are notoriously tight-lipped about their feelings, especially when it comes to their same-sex friends.<\/p>\n<p>But <i>Superbad<\/i> may have tapped into a shift in the male dynamic, an era when \u201cbromance\u201d is proudly put on display and men feel comfortable giving each other hugs even if they haven\u2019t just won the big game.<\/p>\n<p>After seeing the movie, McKenzie and Josh said they saw themselves in the characters Seth and Evan, and recognized many of the problems they worked through in their own lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m Seth and he\u2019s Evan,\u201d McKenzie said.<\/p>\n<p>They even have a friend, Graham, whom they regard as the movie\u2019s notorious party nerd, McLovin.<\/p>\n<p>The two boys have even said \u201cI love you,\u201d albeit in a manly, nonchalant manner, they joke.<\/p>\n<p>Their willingness to discuss their relationship openly, and to prioritize their bond, is something that contradicts academic studies that have historically found a lack of real connection among adolescent male friends. . . .<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a name=\"5\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">5.<\/a> <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/servlet\/story\/RTGAM.20070823.wsmoking23\/BNStory\/Entertainment\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Globe and Mail<\/a><\/i> says a new survey found that more than half of all Canadians may be opposed to a ban on <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/05\/gandalf-may-have-to-switch-to-toffees.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">smoking in films<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Time for a few more quickies. 1.
