But it has never been available on video, to my knowledge \u2014 at least not in North America \u2014 despite its similarities to recent disaster-from-space movies like <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0002V7OI8\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Deep Impact<\/a><\/i> (1998) and <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/6305311463\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Armageddon<\/a><\/i> (1998; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianweek.org\/stories\/vol12\/no07\/culture.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">my review<\/a>); it also seems to have inspired <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/09\/live-musical-accompaniment-is-one.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Guy Maddin<\/a>\u2018s excellent retro-silent short film <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00005Y725\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Heart of the World<\/a><\/i> (2000).<\/p>\n<p>So imagine my joy when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nerve.com\/nerveblog\/screengrabblog.aspx?id=107e13256#13256\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The ScreenGrab<\/a> provided a link to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wtf-film.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">this site<\/a> which allows you to download a copy of Gance\u2019s film <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wtf-film.com\/movies\/LA_FIN_DU_MONDE.wmv\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>.  There\u2019s just one problem.  The film is in French, and the subtitles are in Italian, and I don\u2019t speak either of those languages.<\/p>\n<p>Oh well, hopefully I can get by on the visuals, and on what little I remember of my high-school French.  (Which isn\u2019t much.)<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE:  Apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/turnerclassic.moviesunlimited.com\/product.asp?sku=D74094\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Turner Classic Movies<\/a> does sell a DVD of the 54-minute version of this film that was released in the United States.
