Take this with the usual grains of salt, but CHUD.com<\/a> says it has heard from an insider on Indiana Jones IV<\/a><\/i>:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Belloq\u2019 also tells us that the opening action scene of the film will pit Dr. Jones against Russians agents in Area 51 \u2013 which is interesting, as this is a major similarity to the Frank Darabont draft that confirms my belief that much of what was in that script has made its way into what will be filmed this summer. . . .<\/p>\n

I\u2019m holding back some details, but from what \u2018Belloq\u2019 tells me, and from my own quick reading through the Darabont draft, I would say that the main storyline remains roughly the same \u2013 it involves crystal skulls<\/a><\/b> and takes its cues from Chariots of the Gods<\/a><\/b>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Oy vey. It\u2019s one thing for Steven Spielberg to put allegorical<\/i> Moses figures and Christ figures in UFO movies like Close Encounters of the Third Kid<\/a><\/i> (1977) and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial<\/a><\/i> (1982), but if this film goes the Erich von D\u00e4niken route \u2014 suggesting that all the world\u2019s religions were reactions to visits from outer space \u2014 then that would be far, far too literal. Then again, it is always possible that the film will point beyond the sci-fi stuff to something truly mystical or supernatural. (It is probably hoping too much to wonder if the film might go in the direction of C.S. Lewis\u2019s Out of the Silent Planet<\/i>, but that\u2019s the sort of thing I\u2019m thinking of.)<\/p>\n

Either way, maybe this will explain how C-3PO and R2-D2 turned up in the hieroglyphics in Raiders of the Lost Ark<\/a><\/i> (1981).<\/p>\n
