I haven\u2019t commented on recent Terminator<\/i> developments yet.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last week<\/a>, the newly-formed Halcyon Co. bought the rights to the franchise and announced that it planned to make not one<\/i> new movie, but a whole trilogy<\/i> of new movies \u2014 and this was quickly followed by rumours that the new films might include a digital Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/a> and an actual Nick Stahl<\/a>. One detail that I don\u2019t think was cleared up is whether MGM is still involved<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Then, yesterday<\/a>, Fox TV said it was adding The Sarah Connor Chronicles<\/a><\/i> to its line-up next season \u2014 and at the network\u2019s official website<\/a>, they clarify that Firefly<\/i>\u2018s Summer Glau will be playing a good<\/i> Terminator rather than one of the bad<\/i> Terminators.<\/p>\n

I notice, BTW, that the official synopsis says Glau\u2019s character poses at first as \u201can enigmatic and otherworldly student at [John Connor\u2019s] high school\u201d \u2014 and that John is supposed to be 15 years old when this series takes place. John Connor was 10 years old in the second film, and thus too young for high school \u2014 so does this mean he goes back<\/i> to school after the events of the second film? Then again, the third film revised the back-story<\/a> so that he was 13 years old during the events of the second film, after which he \u201cdisappeared\u201d and stayed \u201coff the grid\u201d \u2014 so perhaps he bumps into Glau\u2019s character a couple years later and remembers her from his high-school days? Or have the writers tweaked his age again<\/i> so that he was 15 years old during the second movie<\/i> \u2014 in which case, you\u2019ve got to wonder why the good Terminator at school didn\u2019t team up with the good Terminator who came back in time to help John during the second movie. Can\u2019t these guys co-ordinate?<\/p>\n

Fox calls this series \u201can exciting reinvention\u201d of the franchise, so I\u2019d bet they\u2019ve gone and revised everything again. Which should make comparing and contrasting the timelines of the TV series and the upcoming movie sequels quite the surreal experience.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
