They\u2019re remaking The Day the Earth Stood Still<\/a><\/i> (1951). So hey why not remake Colossus: The Forbin Project<\/a><\/i> (1970), too?<\/span><\/p>\n

Quoth Variety<\/a><\/i>:<\/p>\n

Universal and Imagine Entertainment will remake the 1970 sci-fi saga \u201cColossus: The Forbin Project\u201d as a potential directing vehicle for Ron Howard. Brian Grazer will produce.<\/p>\n

Jason Rothenberg<\/a> has been set to write the screenplay for a pic to be called \u201cColossus.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on a book by D.F. Jones, the original film was a forerunner of movies like \u201cTerminator<\/a>,\u201d introducing the idea of a government-built computer that becomes sentient and then takes control.<\/p>\n

Rothenberg will use the original\u2019s premise as a springboard and will incorporate two subsequent \u201cColossus\u201d novels written by Jones to hatch a much broader film premise. . . .<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And what\u2019s the connection between the two movies? Nothing much, but I am reminded of how, on the DVD commentary for the original The Day the Earth Stood Still<\/i>, Nicholas Meyer asks director Robert Wise if he has ever seen Colossus<\/i>. In Wise\u2019s film, Klaatu and his robots try to bring about peace by threatening the Earth with violence and taking away at least some of our freedom \u2014 and what is portrayed as essentially good and necessary in Wise\u2019s film is portrayed as problematic in Colossus<\/i>.<\/p>\n

FWIW, I saw Colossus<\/i> once on TV, probably back when I was still in high school, or maybe when I was even younger. So I would need to see it again before I could comment any further.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
