We can bump that number up to six if we count the partly live-action <i>Dinosaur<\/i> (2000; $38.9 million).<\/p>\n<p>But as far as CGI cartoons go, it\u2019s still <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/11\/two-sides-to-chicken-littles-numbers.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a smaller opening weekend<\/a> than any of the 16 films produced by Pixar, <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/04\/is-ice-age-2-bigger-than-pixar.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Fox \/ Blue Sky<\/a>, or Dreamworks \/ PDI have ever had, with the single solitary exception of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/07\/scoop-bully-reviews-are-up.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Antz<\/a><\/i> (1998; $17.2 million).  On the other hand, it is easily bigger than the opening weekends for <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/11\/newsbites-departed-babel-burning.html#6\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Flushed Away<\/a><\/i> (2006; $18.8 million), which Aardman made for DreamWorks, and <i>Everyone\u2019s Hero<\/i> (2006; $6.1 million), which IDT made for Fox.<\/p>\n<p>If we toss all the computer-animated films distributed by Warner Brothers into the mix, <i>Meet the Robinsons<\/i> is also well behind <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/10\/newsbites-da-vinci-penguins-becket.html#2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Happy Feet<\/a><\/i> (2006; $41.5 million), but well ahead of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/07\/ant-bully-interviews-up.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Ant Bully<\/a><\/i> (2006; $8.4 million) and slightly ahead of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2004\/03\/newsbites-compass-south-lair-ostrov.html#5\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">TMNT<\/a><\/i> (2007; $24.3 million) and <i>The Polar Express<\/i> (2004; $23.3 million) \u2014 though I don\u2019t expect it to have the latter film\u2019s staying power.<\/p>\n<p>It also did slightly better than the Sony films <i>Open Season<\/i> (2006; $23.6 million) and <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/07\/monster-house-reviews-up.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Monster House<\/a><\/i> (2006; $22.2 million).<\/p>\n<p>And it easily beat Paramount\u2019s <i>Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius<\/i> (2001; $13.8 million) and <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/08\/barnyard-reviews-up.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Barnyard: The Original Party Animals<\/a><\/i> (2006; $15.8 million), as well as everything put out by the Weinsteins, whose champ to date is <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2004\/03\/newsbites-compass-south-lair-ostrov.html#5\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hoodwinked!<\/a><\/i> (2005; $12.4 million).<\/p>\n<p>So \u2026 that\u2019s the level Disney is operating on these days.<\/p>\n<p>APR 2 UPDATE:  <a href=\"http:\/\/jimhillmedia.com\/blogs\/jim_hill\/archive\/2007\/04\/03\/toon-tuesday-mtr.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jim Hill<\/a> gives his two bits on the box-office figures and what they might mean for the future of Disney animation.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Meet the Robinsons made around $25 million this weekend.
