The film explores the early days of Christianity under the reign of Emperor Nero and the burning of Rome in 64 A.D.<\/p>\n<p>Billed as \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/10\/soundtrack-affirmation.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Gladiator<\/a>\u201d meets \u201cThe Passion of the Christ,\u201d pic is produced by de Boer and Fotopoulus\u2019 Toronto-based FOS with de Boer set to direct from his own script.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Sword of Peter\u201d is budgeted at $40 million and will shoot in Italy and Israel. The producers are looking to finance the film by way of Canadian subsidies, international presales and private equity from Germany. . . .<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The IMDB doesn\u2019t seem to have the names \u201cJakob de Boer\u201d and \u201cBess Fotopoulus\u201d in its archives, at least not with those spellings, but after snooping around a bit, I discovered that these people seem to have been involved in one of the various incarnations of <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/06\/another-film-based-on-johns-gospel.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Visual Bible<\/a>.  In September 2000, <i>Variety<\/i> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.variety.com\/article\/VR1117786747.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>John Hamilton, CEO of Visual Bible, said the director Jakob Deboeris now in Morocco scouting locations for the next three films: \u201cMark,\u201d \u201cLuke\u201d and \u201cJohn,\u201d which he will film simultaneously. . . .<\/p>\n<p>The financing of the movies is coming from the Canadian investment underwriters Dominick and Dominick and the debt-financing company Trinity Capital, said Bess Fotopoulos, president and chief operating officer of Visual Bible. She\u2019s still negotiating with an unidentified Canadian bank for additional production dollars.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As it turned out, the Visual Bible versions of <i>Mark<\/i> and <i>Luke<\/i> were never made, and <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0006Q93ZG\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Gospel of John<\/a><\/i> (2003; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadianchristianity.com\/cgi-bin\/na.cgi?film\/gospelofjohn\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">my review<\/a>) was directed in the end by someone named Philip Saville.
