America but stays strong overseas, while <i>God&#8217;s Not Dead<\/i> sets a new record"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/04\/Noah-n-27836-edit.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/04\/Noah-n-27836-edit-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"NOAH\" width=\"300\" height=\"170\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-17290\"><\/a>As expected, <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/noah-2014\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Noah<\/a><\/i> is faring quite better overseas than it is in North America.<\/p>\n<p>The film, which opened two weeks ago, is estimated to have earned $7.5 million in North America <a href=\"http:\/\/boxofficemojo.com\/weekend\/chart\/?view=&amp;yr=2014&amp;wknd=15&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">between Friday and today<\/a>, bringing its total up to $84.9 million.<\/p>\n<p>That represents a slip of 56.3% since last weekend, which is a steeper drop than <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/son-of-god\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Son of God<\/a><\/i> had in its own third weekend last month. Both films dropped about 60%, give or take a percentage point, in their second weekends; but <i>Son of God<\/i> dropped only an additional 46.7% in its third weekend.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->There is now a distinct possibility that <i>Noah<\/i> could fail to gross $100 million in North America when all is said and done, which would be a first for a film that made <a href=\"http:\/\/boxofficemojo.com\/alltime\/weekends\/?pagenum=m4050&amp;sort=opengross&amp;p=.htm&amp;order=DESC\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">over $43 million<\/a> in its opening weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The news is better overseas, where the film has grossed an additional $56 million since last weekend, bringing its foreign haul up to $162 million.<\/p>\n<p><i>Noah<\/i> has grossed $246.9 million worldwide so far, and has not yet opened in <a href=\"http:\/\/apps.paramountpictures.com\/movie\/noah\/releasedates\/release-dates.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">several countries<\/a>, most notably Japan, which will not get the film until June.<\/p>\n<p>The film currently ranks as the third-highest-grossing Bible adaptation of all time domestically, behind <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/passion-of-the-christ\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">The Passion of the Christ<\/a><\/i> (2004, $370.8 million) and <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/prince-of-egypt\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">The Prince of Egypt<\/a><\/i> (1998, $101.4 million) \u2014 though of course, when you <a href=\"http:\/\/boxofficemojo.com\/alltime\/adjusted.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">take inflation into account<\/a>, several of the epics produced in the genre\u2019s heyday, between <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/samson-and-delilah-1949\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Samson and Delilah<\/a><\/i> (1949) and <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/bible-in-the-beginning\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">The Bible: In the Beginning\u2026<\/a><\/i> (1966), did way better.<\/p>\n<p>The film also ranks as the second-highest-grossing Bible adaptation of all time both overseas and worldwide, behind only <i>The Passion of the Christ<\/i>, which grossed $241.1 million overseas and $611.9 million worldwide. (<i>The Prince of Egypt<\/i> topped out at $117.2 million overseas and $218.6 million worldwide.)<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/gods-not-dead\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">God\u2019s Not Dead<\/a><\/i>, meanwhile, expanded to Canada in its fourth week and grossed $5.5 million for the weekend, a drop of only 29.3% from last week. With $40.7 million in the till so far, it is now the top-grossing movie made <a href=\"http:\/\/boxofficemojo.com\/genres\/chart\/?id=christian.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">by and for evangelicals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><i>Son of God<\/i>, for its part, earned about $300,000 this Palm Sunday weekend, bringing its domestic total up to just a hair under $59 million.
