Well, not exactly. But Variety<\/a><\/i> does report that the rock musician turned horror-movie director plans to direct a remake of The Blob<\/a><\/i>. And CT sister publication Books & Culture<\/i> did run an article<\/a> last year exploring how the original 1958 version of that film was produced by a Christian film company determined to make a \u201cwholesome horror film.\u201d (One of The Blob<\/i>\u2018s producers, Russell S. Doughten Jr.<\/a>, went on to produce, write and act in a number of explicitly Christian films, including the end-times series<\/a> that began with 1972\u2019s A Thief in the Night<\/a><\/i>.)<\/p>\n

And the Christian connections don\u2019t end there! The original movie spawned a sequel, 1972\u2019s Beware! The Blob<\/i>, which featured Larry Norman<\/a> and Randy Stonehill in bit parts. And the movie has been remade once before, by director Chuck Russell (The Mask<\/i>, The Scorpion King<\/a><\/i>), in 1988; and while I don\u2019t know anything about Russell\u2019s own religious persuasions, I do know that he was attached to direct the film version of Frank Peretti\u2019s This Present Darkness<\/i> in the late 1990s, until 20th Century Fox pulled the plug on that project.<\/p>\n

I certainly wouldn\u2019t expect Rob Zombie\u2019s version of The Blob<\/i>, which will reportedly be R-rated, to follow in the \u201cwholesome horror film\u201d mode of the original movie. (The 1988 version was R-rated, too.) And I wouldn\u2019t necessarily expect Rob Zombie\u2019s film to feature Christian musicians in bit parts or whatever, either.
