$\"\"$ <\/a>I haven\u2019t done any blogging this week because my family and I have been busy moving to our new home. There is still quite a bit of unpacking to do, but the actual moving of stuff from Point A to Point B is just about done, and after spending all day yesterday loading and unloading boxes and furniture, I woke up this morning to discover a message from one of the editors at ChristianWeek<\/i> to the effect that an article I wrote for them last year won a prize at the Canadian Church Press Awards<\/a> last night.<\/p>\n

The article in question is \u2018 Scripture on the Silver Screen<\/a>\u2019, and it came in second in the \u2018Non-Fiction Feature\u2019 category. (The top prize went to a Catholic reporter who traveled to Syria to cover the crisis there. Can\u2019t complain about coming in second to that! Indeed, I\u2019m honoured to be in that kind of company.)<\/p>\n

It\u2019s kind of funny to look back at my article now, as I wrote it when Exodus<\/a><\/i> and the latest remake of Ben-Hur<\/a><\/i> were still little more than rumours. The films were certainly \u201cin development\u201d, but neither of them had been officially announced yet, nor had any cameras started rolling. (Since then, Exodus<\/i> has been shot in its entirety.)<\/p>\n

This is the first nod I\u2019ve received for my writing since before I went on my writing and blogging hiatus five years ago, so it\u2019s nice to know that I\u2019m \u201cback\u201d now not just as a writer and blogger, but as an award-winning<\/i> writer and blogger. You can read about my previous awards \u2014 for news writing as well as film criticism \u2014 here<\/a>, though it\u2019s sobering to see how many of the articles I linked to aren\u2019t online any more.<\/p>\n
