{"id":1983,"date":"2006-10-10T22:34:00","date_gmt":"2006-10-10T22:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2006\/10\/bon-cop-trailer-park-boys-rake-in-the-money\/"},"modified":"2006-10-10T22:34:00","modified_gmt":"2006-10-10T22:34:00","slug":"bon-cop-trailer-park-boys-rake-in-the-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2006\/10\/bon-cop-trailer-park-boys-rake-in-the-money.html","title":{"rendered":"Bon Cop, Trailer Park Boys rake in the money"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><span style=\"font-family: georgia\"><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.variety.com\/article\/VR1117951634\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Variety<\/a><\/i> reports that <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/09\/bon-cop-bad-cop-races-up-charts.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Bon Cop, Bad Cop<\/a><\/i> has passed <i>Porky\u2019s<\/i> (1982) to become the top-grossing Canadian film within Canada, ever:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Alliance Atlantis also announced Tuesday that Montreal-made bilingual action-comedy \u201cBon Cop Bad Cop\u201d has passed \u201cPorky\u2019s\u201d to become the top-grossing local film ever in Canada. \u201cBon Cop\u201d has grossed $10.2 million since its launch Aug. 3, with ticket sales of $8.1 million from its French version and $2.1 million from its English version. \u201cPorky\u2019s,\u201d which was released in 1981, grossed $10 million in Canada.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This does not make it the top-grossing Canadian film ever, <i>per se<\/i>, though, since <i>Porky\u2019s<\/i> raked in a lot of American moolah for a combined $105.5 million gross, and <i>Bon Cop, Bad Cop<\/i> hasn\u2019t even opened south of the border yet \u2014 and there\u2019s a good chance it never will.  And then of course there\u2019s inflation to consider.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, this bit of box-office news comes at the end of an article on the success of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0425601\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Trailer Park Boys: The Movie<\/a><\/i>, which grossed $1.3 million over the three-day weekend \u2014 that\u2019s slightly higher than the figure I reported <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/10\/canadian-box-office-stats-october-8.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>, but at any rate, it\u2019s one of the biggest openings ever for an English-Canadian film, and enough to rank the film #11 for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/weekend\/chart\/?view=&amp;yr=2006&amp;wknd=40&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">the weekend<\/a> in North America, if the North American charts had bothered to include it.  And who knows \u2014 eventually, they might; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.macleans.ca\/culture\/news\/shownews.jsp?content=e101067A\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Canadian Press<\/a> reports that negotiations to release the film stateside are in the works.<\/p>\n<p>OCT 11 UPDATE:  And now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/NASApp\/cs\/ContentServer?pagename=thestar\/Layout\/Article_Type1&amp;c=Article&amp;cid=1160560210465&amp;call_pageid=968332188492\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">this Canadian Press story<\/a> claims: \u201cSales for \u2018Bon Cop, Bad Cop\u2019 have totalled $11.3 million across the country, beating out the raunchy Florida-set 80\u2019s comedy which cashed in $11.2 million at the Canadian register years ago.\u201d  So there\u2019s <i>another<\/i> set of figures, just to confuse us some more.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Variety reports that Bon Cop, Bad Cop has passed Porky\u2019s (1982) to become the top-grossing Canadian film within Canada, ever: Alliance Atlantis also announced Tuesday that Montreal-made bilingual action-comedy \u201cBon Cop Bad Cop\u201d has passed \u201cPorky\u2019s\u201d to become the top-grossing local film ever in Canada. \u201cBon Cop\u201d has grossed $10.2 million since its launch Aug.
