As you can see from the main poster to the right \u2014 which shows Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Ramses kind of glaring at each other while they touch their swords \u2014 the images are essentially black-and-white, except for gold-tinted highlights and just a hint of blue.<\/p>\n<p>I also can\u2019t recall ever seeing a Moses movie that made a pyramid as central to its imagery as this poster does. It gives the poster an Illuminati-esque feel, and I\u2019m afraid the first thing it brings to mind is the fact that <i>Exodus<\/i> director Ridley Scott is attached to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/pharaoh\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">an HBO series<\/a> which will play on the idea that the ancient Egyptian civilization was built in part with help from aliens.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Anyway, here\u2019s a larger version of the main poster:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/exodusgodsandkings1.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/exodusgodsandkings1.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"exodusgodsandkings\" width=\"500\" height=\"740\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19947\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here are the other two posters released today, one featuring Bale (with his sword <i>up<\/i>) and one featuring Edgerton (with his sword <i>down<\/i>):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/exodusgodsandkings-christianbale.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/exodusgodsandkings-christianbale.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"exodusgodsandkings-christianbale\" width=\"500\" height=\"740\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19931\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/exodusgodsandkings-joeledgerton.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/exodusgodsandkings-joeledgerton.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"exodusgodsandkings-joeledgerton\" width=\"500\" height=\"740\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19938\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To get a sense of how static these images are, compared to the posters for other recent ancient epics, here are the original domestic and international posters for <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/noah-2014\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Noah<\/a><\/i>, which emphasize apocalyptic disaster \u2014 the falling rain! the crashing waves! \u2014 and the threat of violence posed by the weapon in Noah\u2019s hand:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/noah-poster.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/noah-poster.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"noah-poster\" width=\"500\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19939\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/noah-poster-us.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/noah-poster-us.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"noah-poster-us\" width=\"500\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19940\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is the poster for <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/son-of-god\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Son of God<\/a><\/i>, the bottom portion of which emphasizes the turmoil between the Jewish protestors and their Roman occupiers:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/sonofgod.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/sonofgod-694x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"sonofgod\" width=\"500\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-19941\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You <i>could<\/i> argue that the original poster for <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/gladiator-2000\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Gladiator<\/a><\/i> was somewhat static too \u2014 just Russell Crowe holding a sword \u2014 but notice the words rising behind him:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/gladiator2000.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/gladiator2000.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"gladiator2000\" width=\"500\" height=\"744\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19943\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And certainly the poster for Scott\u2019s subsequent epic, <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/kingdom-of-heaven\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Kingdom of Heaven<\/a><\/i>, was a lot more dynamic than the posters for <i>Exodus: Gods and Kings<\/i>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/kingdomofheaven.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2014\/07\/kingdomofheaven.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"kingdomofheaven\" width=\"500\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19944\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ah well. The new movie isn\u2019t due for another five months, and we\u2019ll probably see even more posters before it comes out.
