In his first departure from the horror genre, \u201cThe Hills Have Eyes\u201d helmer Alexandre Aja<\/a> is attached to direct an English-lingo bigscreen adaptation of the Gallic bestseller \u201cThe Gospel According to Jimmy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rights to the book by Goncourt winner Didier Van Cauwalaert were acquired recently by Alexandre Films, the Gallic production company of Aja\u2019s helmer\/producer father Alexandre Arcady. . . .<\/p>\n

Set in the near future, \u201cJimmy\u201d tells the story of a pool cleaner in L.A. who finds out that he\u2019s a clone of Jesus, made from DNA taken from the Turin shroud.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a wonderful satirical comedy about America today and the rise of Christian fundamentalism,\u201d Aja said on Wednesday, pitching the tale as \u201ca cross between \u2018Dr Strangelove,\u2019 \u2018Walk the Dog\u2019 and \u2018The Truman Show\u2019.\u201d . . .<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The idea of cloning Jesus from the DNA in the bloodstains on the Shroud of Turin might be new to the big screen, but science-fiction writers have explored it before, for example in J.R. Lankford\u2019s The Jesus Thief<\/a><\/i> and James BeauSeigneur\u2019s Christ<\/a> Clone<\/a> Trilogy<\/a><\/i>; in Peter Senese and Robert J. Geis\u2019s Cloning Christ<\/a><\/i>, the blood and its DNA are taken from the newly rediscovered True Cross.<\/p>\n

In addition, at least one real-life sindonologist (that\u2019s a fancy term for \u201cshroud expert\u201d) has written an entire book<\/a> on the DNA to be found in the blood remnants on the Shroud \u2014 though other, more skeptical experts have said the bloodstains on the Shroud are nothing but paint.
