{"id":2190,"date":"2006-06-28T16:51:00","date_gmt":"2006-06-28T16:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2006\/06\/have-all-the-james-bonds-remembered-his-wife\/"},"modified":"2006-06-28T16:51:00","modified_gmt":"2006-06-28T16:51:00","slug":"have-all-the-james-bonds-remembered-his-wife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2006\/06\/have-all-the-james-bonds-remembered-his-wife.html","title":{"rendered":"Have all the James Bonds remembered his wife?"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><a href=\"https:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/7991\/933\/1600\/ohmss.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"cursor:pointer;cursor:hand\" src=\"https:\/\/photos1.blogger.com\/blogger\/7991\/933\/400\/ohmss.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\"><\/a><br><span style=\"font-family: georgia\">Quick question:  Did the James Bond films ever refer to his status as a widower during the Pierce Brosnan era (1995-2002)?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bond got married at the end of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B00004RG65\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">On Her Majesty\u2019s Secret Service<\/a><\/i> (1969), starring George Lazenby, and his wife was promptly killed.<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B00004W9C9\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Diamonds Are Forever<\/a><\/i> (1971) begins with Sean Connery\u2019s Bond tracking down the person(s) responsible for his wife\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>The Roger Moore films also refer to her death, e.g. when Barbara Bach\u2019s Russian spy rattles off what she knows about Bond\u2019s personal history in <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B00004RG66\/petertchatta\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Spy Who Loved Me<\/a><\/i> (1977), or when Bond lays flowers at his wife\u2019s gravesite in <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B00000K0E4\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">For Your Eyes Only<\/a><\/i> (1981).<\/p>\n<p>And the Timothy Dalton films make at least one reference to this, when Bond attends Felix Leiter\u2019s wedding in <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B00000K0E7\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">License to Kill<\/a><\/i> (1989), and Leiter says something about Bond being uncomfortable around weddings as a result of what happened to his own wife.<\/p>\n<p>So all the <i>other<\/i> actors who have played Bond have touched on this part of the Bond mythos.  But has Brosnan?  I can\u2019t remember.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, Daniel Craig will not get a chance to deal with this part of the Bond mythos in <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/03\/newsbites-nativity-evan-casino.html#3\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Casino Royale<\/a><\/i>, because the film effectively re-boots the series and starts it off from scratch, presumably before Bond is married.  I\u2019m just wondering if this will make Craig the only exception, in this regard, among the various Bonds.<\/p>\n<p>(I\u2019m ignoring the actors who played Bond in the <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/10\/casino-royale-take-one-take-two.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">other versions<\/a> of <i>Casino Royale<\/i> entirely, since they aren\u2019t part of the \u201ccanon\u201d.)<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Quick question: Did the James Bond films ever refer to his status as a widower during the Pierce Brosnan era (1995-2002)?
