Peter Pan<\/a><\/i> (1953) is not one of my most favorite Disney movies, so I don\u2019t have much of an opinion regarding Disney\u2019s plans to feature Tinkerbell in a new movie as part of a series of straight-to-video \u201cFairies\u201d titles \u2014 but just on principle, I have to take exception to the fact that the pixie will now have a voice. To quote Reuters<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n

The creation of author and playwright J.M. Barrie, Tinker Bell spent the last hundred years fluttering about Peter Pan, jealous of Wendy Darling but never speaking up \u2014 until now.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone that can steal the screen without a single word of dialogue certainly deserves a film of her very own,\u201d said Disney Studios Chairman Richard Cook.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s right \u2014 the character\u2019s defining characteristic has been so successful, they decided to redefine it. Sheesh. And how much do you want to bet that Tinkerbell\u2019s dialogue will consist of a lot of completely bland and unremarkable pap about \u201cfollowing her heart\u201d?
