It\u2019s been a while \u2014 just a few quick items, for now.<\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/a> Mark Moring, my editor at CT Movies, visited the set of The Nativity Story<\/a><\/i> in Italy recently. Here<\/a> is his report.<\/p>\n

One slight nit-pick, at the risk of \u201cediting\u201d my editor \u2014 at one point, he calls the film \u201cthe first major theatrical release about a biblical story from a Hollywood studio since the 1950s heyday of Bible epics (Ben-Hur<\/a><\/i>, The Ten Commandments<\/a><\/i>, The Robe<\/i>).\u201d But even if we lump in the 1960s films (King of Kings<\/i>, The Greatest Story Ever Told<\/i>, The Bible: In the Beginning\u2026<\/i>, etc.) with the 1950s films, and even if we bracket off The Last Temptation of Christ<\/a><\/i> (1988) because it had a low budget and was therefore not a \u201cmajor\u201d movie, there is still Bruce Beresford\u2019s King David<\/a><\/i> (1985), which was produced by Paramount and starred Richard Gere.<\/p>\n

Then again, many people would<\/i> like to forget that film!<\/p>\n

2.<\/a> The Omen<\/a><\/i> set a new record yesterday for the most money earned on a Tuesday \u2014 oooh, aaah. Best of all, the film reportedly grossed $12,633,666<\/b> that day \u2014 but as BoxOfficeMojo.com<\/a> reports, that number may not be as ominous as it seems.<\/p>\n

3.<\/a> I mentioned Un dimanche \u00e0 Kigali<\/a><\/i> the other day in a post about recent and upcoming films about Rwanda. But I only found out today that the film was released in Quebec about two months ago \u2014 and it has already grossed over $1 million there, according to a press release that I received this morning from distributor Equinoxe Films<\/a>. The film comes to English Canada in the fall.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
