Truth!"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><span style=\"font-family: georgia\">Yep, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/06\/break-up-reviews-up.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Break-Up<\/a><\/i> <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/06\/break-up-trumps-x-men-3.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">trounced<\/a> <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/05\/x-men-last-stand-subtext-men.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">X-Men: The Last Stand<\/a><\/i>, all right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>The Break-Up<\/i> is estimated to have grossed $38.1 million in its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/weekend\/chart\/?view=&amp;yr=2006&amp;wknd=22&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">first weekend<\/a>, which is easily the highest opening weekend for any film featuring Vince Vaughn or Jennifer Aniston in a leading role.<\/p>\n<p>However, if we count supporting roles, <i>The Break-Up<\/i> marks <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/people\/chart\/?view=Actor&amp;id=vincevaughn.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Vaughn<\/a>\u2018s third-highest opening, after <i>The Lost World: Jurassic Park<\/i> (1997, $72.1 million) and <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/07\/newsbites-quickie-aslan-aristocrats.html#3\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mr. &amp; Mrs. Smith<\/a><\/i> (2005, $50.3 million), and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/people\/chart\/?view=Actor&amp;id=jenniferaniston.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Aniston<\/a>\u2018s second-highest opening, after <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/08\/carell-almighty.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Bruce Almighty<\/a><\/i> (2003, $68 million) \u2014 indeed, <i>The Break-Up<\/i>\u2018s opening weekend alone beats the lifetime gross of all but three Aniston films, namely <i>Bruce Almighty<\/i> ($242.8 million), <i>Along Came Polly<\/i> (2004, $88.1 million) and <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/12\/rumour-with-u-please.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Rumour Has It\u2026<\/a><\/i> (2005, $43 million).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/01\/da-vinci-code-article-archive.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Da Vinci Code<\/a><\/i> is poised to become the top-grossing film of the year <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/yearly\/chart\/?view2=worldwide&amp;yr=2006&amp;p=.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">worldwide<\/a>, at least for a while; at $581.7 million, it currently trails behind <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/04\/is-ice-age-2-bigger-than-pixar.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ice Age: The Meltdown<\/a><\/i>\u2018s $626.3 million, but it is way, way ahead of all the other competition, and it could pass that in a week or two.  And FWIW, <i>The Da Vinci Code<\/i> is currently #32 on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/alltime\/world\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">all-time<\/a> worldwide chart, while <i>Ice Age: The Meltdown<\/i> is currently #27.<\/p>\n<p>Also noteworthy:  The Al Gore global-warming documentary <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/03\/al-gore-goes-looking-for-passion.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">An Inconvenient Truth<\/a><\/i> cracked the box-office top ten, grossing $1.3 million in only 77 theatres (it doesn\u2019t open in Vancouver until next week), and thus netted the highest per-screen average of the lot ($17,298, versus <i>The Break-Up<\/i>\u2018s $12,395).<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yep, The Break-Up trounced X-Men: The Last Stand, all right.
