1.<\/a> More casting news from the makers of Nativity<\/a><\/i> (which seems to have dropped the \u201cThe\u201d). The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i> says Shohreh Aghdashloo, an Oscar nominee for House of Sand and Fog<\/a><\/i> (2003) who also had a small role in The Exorcism of Emily Rose<\/a><\/i> (2005), will play Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist.<\/p>\n

The article describes Elizabeth as Mary\u2019s \u201csister\u201d, and therefore Jesus\u2019 \u201caunt\u201d, but that might be a mistake on the reporter\u2019s part; in the original Greek, she is called Mary\u2019s \u201csuggenes<\/a><\/i>\u201c, a generic term for kinsfolk that is typically translated \u201c cousin<\/a>\u201d or \u201c relative<\/a>\u201c.<\/p>\n

MAR 22 UPDATE: FWIW, this version<\/a> of the Hollywood Reporter<\/i>\u2018s story does, in fact, refer to Elizabeth as Mary\u2019s \u201ccousin\u201d. It also refers to the angel that visits both of them, which suggests that this film will retain at least some element of the supernatural.<\/p>\n

MAR 23 UPDATE: And now the original site posts a correction<\/a> to the story, replacing \u201csister\u201d with \u201cfirst cousin\u201d!<\/p>\n

2.<\/a> BBC News<\/a> reports that a pirated copy of the Oscar-winning<\/a> foreign film Tsotsi<\/i> \u2014 with a different ending \u2014 is making the rounds in South Africa. Turns out director Gavin Hood shot three<\/i> endings for the film. Hopefully we will see them all on the DVD.<\/p>\n

3.<\/a> The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i> says, \u201cThe final installment of Aki Kaurismaki\u2019s Finnish trilogy, \u2018Lights in the Dusk,\u2019 also is assured a competition slot\u201d at this year\u2019s Cannes film festival.
