{"id":2345,"date":"2006-03-15T10:32:00","date_gmt":"2006-03-15T10:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2006\/03\/al-gore-goes-looking-for-passion-dollars\/"},"modified":"2006-03-15T10:32:00","modified_gmt":"2006-03-15T10:32:00","slug":"al-gore-goes-looking-for-passion-dollars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2006\/03\/al-gore-goes-looking-for-passion-dollars.html","title":{"rendered":"Al Gore goes looking for &#8220;Passion dollars&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><span style=\"font-family: georgia\">Ever since <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/03\/hannibal-coming-soon-in-ancient-punic.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Passion of the Christ<\/a><\/i> (2004) came out of nowhere and conquered the box office, Hollywood has been looking for ways to rake in more of those \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/cbn.com\/cbnnews\/CWN\/061705Hollywood1.asp\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\"><i>Passion<\/i> dollars<\/a>\u201c.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now, says the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/movies.yahoo.com\/mv\/news\/va\/20060315\/114242200300.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i>, former <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Al_Gore\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">U.S. Vice President Al Gore<\/a> is pursuing this market on behalf of his global-warming documentary <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0497116\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">An Inconvenient Truth<\/a><\/i>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhat we have found about this movie is (that) the word-of-mouth gets people to come in and see it and bring others to come see it,\u201d Gore said.<\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s marketing team will take a page from \u201cThe Passion of the Christ\u201d and \u201cThe Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch &amp; the Wardrobe\u201d and target the faith-based groups that helped make those pictures box office hits. Gore said Paramount also will pursue environmental and business groups to boost awareness of the Davis Guggenheim-directed documentary.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There are, of course, other factors at work here besides the purely commercial quest for \u201c<i>Passion<\/i> dollars\u201d.  Environmentalists have been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.getreligion.org\/?p=1389\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">wooing evangelicals<\/a> for some time, hoping to use their political clout; and recent evangelical environmental campaigns have been overseen by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fenton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Fenton Communications<\/a>, the firm behind MoveOn.org, which also teamed up with Al Gore to promote the environmentally-themed blockbuster <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0007PALRU\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Day after Tomorrow<\/a><\/i> (2004; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/movies\/reviews\/dayaftertomorrow.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">my review<\/a>).
