But what about Deepa Mehta\u2019s <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0240200\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Water<\/a><\/i> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadianchristianity.com\/cgi-bin\/na.cgi?nationalupdates\/050929viff\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">my review<\/a>), with nine nominations, which takes place entirely in 1930s India?  Or what about Michael Dowse\u2019s <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B000A7LR6Y\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">It\u2019s All Gone Pete Tong<\/a><\/i>, with eight nominations, which concerns a successful British DJ who lives in Spain and loses his hearing?<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Genie stalwart Atom Egoyan\u2019s <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B000DZ8540\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Where the Truth Lies<\/a><\/i>, which concerns a Hollywood scandal but was co-produced by Canadian companies and\/or agencies, is nominated for five awards, while fellow Genie stalwart David Cronenberg\u2019s <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B000CQLZ0Q\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">A History of Violence<\/a><\/i>, which also concerns American characters but was financed entirely by an American studio, was shut out completely.<\/p>\n<p>FWIW, I\u2019ve seen all of those films except for <i>C.R.A.Z.Y<\/i>.  The other nominated films that I have seen include: <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/03\/saint-ralph-first-impressions.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Saint Ralph<\/a><\/i>, which has five nominations in four categories; <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/03\/see-grace-fly-on-tv.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">See Grace Fly<\/a><\/i>, which scored a nomination for Vancouverite Gina Chiarelli; and <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/08\/scaredsacred.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">ScaredSacred<\/a><\/i>, which is one of two films nominated for best documentary.<\/p>\n<p>No word yet on which film will win the <a href=\"http:\/\/72.14.203.104\/search?q=cache:aRRlYyLAJeAJ:www.genieawards.ca\/genie25\/pressgoldenreel.cfm&amp;hl=en&amp;ct=clnk&amp;cd=2\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Golden Reel Award<\/a>, which goes to the Canadian movie that made the most money within a given 12-month period.
