It\u2019s been a while, so here are some quick news items.<\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/a> It\u2019s official: Disney<\/a> has acquired Pixar<\/a>. Or has Pixar acquired Disney? Reuters<\/a> and the Associated Press<\/a> both say that, on a corporate level, the Mouse House has acquired the company that pioneered feature-length CGI animation \u2014 but they also note that Pixar owner Steve Jobs will become one of Disney\u2019s largest shareholders, while Toy Story<\/i> director John Lasseter will become \u201cchief creative officer of the animation studios and principal creative adviser at Walt Disney Imagineering, which designs and builds the company\u2019s theme parks.\u201d Also, the Pixar and Disney animation divisions will merge into one single unit \u2014 not surprising, given that Disney recently abandoned hand-drawn animation<\/a> altogether for the CGI kind \u2014 and the president of this merged group will be Pixar president Ed Catmull. So don\u2019t be too surprised if Disney acquires some of Pixar\u2019s corporate ethos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There is no word yet on how the merger will affect Disney\u2019s plans, announced months ago, to produce a non-Pixar Toy Story 3<\/i>.<\/p>\n

2<\/a>. The Associated Press<\/a> reports that Golden Globe winner Paradise Now<\/a><\/i> is not very popular with Palestinians, while Reuters<\/a> reports that it is not very popular with Israelis. Meanwhile, Orthodox writer Frederica Mathewes-Green<\/a> has some interesting comments on the film\u2019s political and theological resonances.<\/p>\n

3.<\/a> If you haven\u2019t read it yet, the Los Angeles Times<\/a><\/i> had an interesting story two weeks ago on the series of events that led to the creation of Hoodwinked<\/a><\/i>, celebrated by some as the first noteworthy \u201cindie\u201d animated movie. Now, FilmStew.com<\/a> reports that the first of three possible sequels is in the works.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
