\"benhur1959-race\"<\/a>The Charlton Heston version of Ben-Hur<\/a><\/i> was filmed partly at the Cinecitta Studios in Rome, so it comes as no surprise that the new version will be filmed there, too, as Variety<\/a><\/i> reports today. The four-month shoot is set to begin in February.<\/p>\n

More interesting is the fact that the new film will also be shot partly in Matera<\/a>, the Italian town that was thought to be \u201ca shocking example of European poverty\u201d back when Pier Paolo Pasolini shot The Gospel According to St Matthew<\/a><\/i> there in the 1960s, but has since become something of a tourist spot<\/a> \u2014 not to mention a location for several other Bible movies.<\/p>\n

Films shot there include Bruce Beresford\u2019s King David<\/a><\/i>, Mel Gibson\u2019s The Passion of the Christ<\/a><\/i>, Catherine Hardwicke\u2019s The Nativity Story<\/a><\/i> and Cyrus Nowrasteh\u2019s Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt<\/a><\/i>, which is also currently shooting<\/a> at Cinecitta in Rome.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
