Time for another few newsbite quickies.<\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/a> The Chronicles of Narnia<\/a><\/i> grossed $67.1 million in its opening weekend<\/a>, according to studio estimates. This is the 2nd-biggest December<\/a> opening, after 2003\u2019s The Return of the King<\/i>; the 3rd-biggest opening of 2005<\/a>, after Star Wars III<\/a><\/i> and Harry Potter IV<\/a><\/i>; and the 23rd-biggest opening weekend of all time<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2.<\/a> Jeffrey Wells<\/a> reports that Jesus might make an appearance in Oliver Stone\u2019s movie about September 11:<\/p>\n

Andrea Berloff\u2019s script is about the true story of two Port Authority cops, John McLoughlin (Nicolas Cage) and William J. Jimeno (Michael Pena), who were buried under the rubble of the fallen World Trade Center towers on 9.11. It\u2019s been reported that the ex-Marine who drove down to the WTC site from Connecticut and wound up digging the cops out and saving their lives (In The Bedroom<\/i>\u2018s William Maptoher is portraying him in the film) was a born-again Christian who he believed he was doing the bidding of a higher celestial power in performing his rescue. But what hasn\u2019t been reported is that a late \u201904 draft of Berfloff\u2019s script has a scene in which Jesus Christ appears in a hallucination that Jimeno \u201csees\u201d as he\u2019s slipping in and out of consciousness due to a lack of water, and Christ offers water to him. This scene could easily have been tossed or not filmed, but if it stays and makes the final cut, Paramount Pictures, distributors of the Stone film, will obviously have marketing hook to try and attract the crowd that supported The Passion of the Christ<\/a><\/i> and are soon expected to turn out big-time for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe<\/i>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

3.<\/a> The Times<\/a><\/i> reports that Disney is replacing Christopher Robin with a \u201ctomboyish girl\u201d in the new animated series My Friends Tigger and Pooh<\/i>.<\/p>\n

4.<\/a> FilmStew.com<\/a> reports that Sean Connery, 75, is \u201ctackling a lifetime first\u201d by lending his voice to an animated short film, Sir Billi the Vet<\/i>, for his \u201cfirst-ever voice-over role\u201d. It seems to me, though, that Connery didn\u2019t lend more than his voice to the fantasy film Dragonheart<\/a><\/i> (1996).<\/p>\n

5.<\/a> The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i> says Scarlett Johansson has joined Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine and David Bowie in Christopher Nolan\u2019s The Prestige<\/a><\/i>.
