There were 100 films on last year<\/a>\u2018s Arts & Faith Top 100 Spiritually Significant Films list. And there are 100 films on this year<\/a>\u2018s Arts & Faith Top 100 Spiritually Significant Films list. But, by my hasty count, there are only 66 films on both<\/i> lists.<\/span><\/p>\n

What changed? Partly the methodology by which the films were selected and voted upon; this year\u2019s list even ranks the films. Partly also the composition of the group that voted upon these films (e.g. this person<\/a> says he stayed out of this year\u2019s selection process because he didn\u2019t know what was meant by the term \u201cspiritually significant\u201d \u2014 and this person\u2019s absence may be one of the reasons why the films of Peter Weir vanished from the list).<\/p>\n

FWIW, by my hasty count, I have seen between 91 and 93 of the films on last year\u2019s list \u2014 you know how some titles sound so familiar you think you saw them even though you might not have? \u2014 and I have seen between 79 and 83 of the films on this year\u2019s list. (This year\u2019s list also includes one famous film that I have never seen, but I have read the book on which it was based.)<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
