Told through flashback, the movie\u2019s plot implies that the title character either succumbed to demonic invasion or a worldly medical condition. The film, perhaps in deference to the writers\u2019 competing philosophies, never answers the question: What happened to Emily Rose?<\/p>\n<p>For Derrickson, the answer haunted him even in his sleep. He says he was spooked when he woke up at exactly 3 a.m. \u2014 a recurring motif in the film that suggests a satanic visit \u2014 several times during production.<\/p>\n<p>But Boardman offers a logical explanation. \u201c(It\u2019s an) example that the power of suggestion was working on him on some level,\u201d he quips.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>2. <a href=\"http:\/\/movies.yahoo.com\/mv\/news\/va\/20050912\/112653637900.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Reuters\/VNU<\/a> profiles Bosnian director Danis Tanovic, whose film <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0430224\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hell (L\u2019Enfer)<\/a><\/i> premiered at the Toronto festival last week and will come to the <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/09\/vancouver-film-festival-announces-line.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Vancouver festival<\/a> next month:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The origin of Tanovic\u2019s drama goes back to the late Polish film maker Krzysztof Kieslowski, whose trilogy \u201cThree Colors,\u201d examined liberty, equality, and fraternity, the values of the French revolution.<\/p>\n<p>Kieslowski was associated with the \u201ccinema of moral anxiety.\u201d He announced a new trilogy based on Dante\u2019s epic poems: \u201cHeaven,\u201d \u201cHell\u201d and \u201cPurgatory,\u201d before he died in 1996.<\/p>\n<p>When the idea of completing Kieslowski\u2019s project was first introduced to Tanovic several years ago, he did not feel an instant attraction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the idea was first introduced to me, I married, I became a father, and the subject appeared different to me. I discovered new centers of interest,\u201d Tanovic, who now lives in Paris, told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>The screenplay was written by Krzysztof Piesiewicz, a long-time collaborator of Kieslowski, whom Tanovic admired as a student.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHeaven\u201d was filmed by another director and Tanovic says he wants no part of the last film in the trilogy, \u201cPurgatory,\u201d which deals with journalists in a war zone.
