Tree of Life!"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><span style=\"font-family: georgia\">Just a few quick links.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"1\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">1.<\/a>  Reviews of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/01\/inklings-article-archive.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe<\/a><\/i> are popping up at sites like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/forums\/viewtopic.htm?t=50152\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">BoxOfficeMojo.com<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.narniaweb.com\/news.asp?id=394&amp;dl=4209890\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">NarniaWeb<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aintitcool.com\/display.cgi?id=21148\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ain\u2019t It Cool News<\/a>, now that Disney has held a test screening of the film.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s one spoiler-ish comment that might not please the film\u2019s more <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/08\/cashing-in-on-aslans-evangelism.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Christian fans<\/a>: \u201cThe major complaint of the Narnia-experts in the panel was that during the coronation scene, the children are not crowned in the name of the Emperor beyond the Sea, but rather in the name of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rc.net\/wcc\/readings\/father10.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">four winds<\/a> and their powers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">2.<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/news.php?id=11030\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">ComingSoon.net<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/movies.yahoo.com\/mv\/news\/fs\/20050901\/112559939600.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">FilmStew.com<\/a> report that Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller (the latter of whom directed Carrey in 1996\u2019s <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0800141687\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Cable Guy<\/a><\/i>) may be teaming up for the sci-fi comedy <i>Used Guys<\/i>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Set many years in the future, <i>Used Guys<\/i> takes place in a society where women rule the planet after all the men have died out from ingesting an enhancement beverage that proved fatal.<\/p>\n<p>Stiller and Carrey would play pleasure clones who are now out-of-date because newer models \u2014 with better listening and lovemaking skills \u2014 have been developed. In order to preserve the last bit of their dignity, the obsolete models make a run for it and try to find a mystical male nirvana known as Mantopia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a name=\"3\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">3.<\/a> <i><a href=\"http:\/\/movies.yahoo.com\/mv\/news\/va\/20050831\/112548191600.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i> says <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/07\/wilberforce-coming-to-big-screen.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Terrence Malick<\/a> is in talks to write and direct <i>Tree of Life<\/i>.  No details on the story yet, but it may be shot in India, and it may star Colin Farrell, who will be seen later this year as John Smith in <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0402399\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The New World<\/a><\/i>, Malick\u2019s re-imagining of the Pocahontas legend.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"4\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">4.<\/a>  Side note: I am watching <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0790729628\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Blade Runner<\/a><\/i> (1982) for the first time in years, and I don\u2019t care for it now any more than I have on previous viewings; but one thing that does jump out at me is that Tyrell (Joe Turkel) talks an awful lot like Agent Smith in <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/07\/matrix-redux-spoilers-galore.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the <i>Matrix<\/i> movies<\/a>.  An intentional homage, on the Wachowskis\u2019 part?<\/p>\n<p>I am also impressed by <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/05\/kingdom-of-reader-feedback.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ridley Scott<\/a>\u2018s repeated use of the eye motif, and by the way the \u201cempathy tests\u201d that separate the human beings from the replicants are based on whether the respondents demonstrate empathy for mere animals.  So . . . human society feels it doesn\u2019t have to show any empathy for replicants because they don\u2019t have any empathy for animals?  Interesting.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"5\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">5.<\/a>  Reminder: the <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/08\/fellinis-coming-to-vancouver.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Fellini series<\/a> starts tonight!
