Especially remakes of films about odd behaviour in seemingly normal small towns?  Last year it was the surprisingly enjoyably campy <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0002W4UDE\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Stepford Wives<\/a><\/i> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/movies\/reviews\/stepfordwives.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">my CT Movies review<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/bc\/2004\/006\/8.18.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">my B&amp;C; essay<\/a>).  Now, <a href=\"http:\/\/comingsoon.net\/news.php?id=10578\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">ComingSoon.net<\/a> reports that she\u2019ll be starring in the upcoming <i>fourth<\/i> version of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0427392\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Invasion of the Body Snatchers<\/a><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The new film will be directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, the German director who made <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B00009AVA8\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Das Experiment<\/a><\/i> (2001; <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.yahoo.com\/group\/onfilm\/message\/6247\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">my comments<\/a>), one of the more visceral and unsettling movies I\u2019ve seen in recent years, as well as the Oscar-nominated death-of-Hitler movie <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0009RCPUC\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Downfall<\/a><\/i> (2004; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/movies\/reviews\/downfall.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">my review<\/a>) \u2014 so this <i>could<\/i> be an interesting film.<\/p>\n<p>FWIW, I have never seen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0792838416\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Philip Kaufman\u2019s 1978 version<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0790742462\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Abel Ferrara\u2019s 1993 version<\/a>, but I did watch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0782009980\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Don Siegel\u2019s 1956 version<\/a> while preparing a review of Mark Jancovich\u2019s <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0719036240\/petertchatta\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Rational Fears: American horror in the 1950s<\/a><\/i> some years ago.  That review is not online, but I did write a few paragraphs about the book \u2014 including a few sentences on Siegel\u2019s film \u2014 in <a href=\"http:\/\/peter.chattaway.com\/articles\/firstcon.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">this article<\/a> that I wrote around that time on <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/05\/star-trek-first-contact.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Star Trek: First Contact<\/a><\/i> (1996).<\/p>\n<p>AUG 2 UPDATE:  <i><a href=\"http:\/\/movies.yahoo.com\/mv\/news\/va\/20050802\/112298248700.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i> now says the new film is not a remake any more, and will thus merely be called <i>Invasion<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>AUG 18 2006 UPDATE:  Just noticed it\u2019s now called <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0427392\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Visiting<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>OCT 15 2006 UPDATE:  <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/10\/looks-like-its-invasion-after-all.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">And now<\/a> it\u2019s <i>The Invasion<\/i> again.<\/p>\n<p>NOV 13 2006 UPDATE:  The Wachowski brothers have reportedly been brought in to do an \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2006\/11\/newsbites-jesus-camp-invasion-frog.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">emergency rewrite<\/a>\u201d on the ending.<\/p>\n<p>JAN 25 2007 UPDATE:  Nicole Kidman was sent to a hospital after <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/01\/invasion-how-many-re-shoots-again.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a car crash<\/a> during filming today.
