This can\u2019t be serious \u2014 but Google<\/a> currently lists seven different news items to the effect that Drew Barrymore wants to make a sequel to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial<\/a><\/i> (1982; my review<\/a>), the film that made her famous when she was only six years old:<\/span><\/p>\n

Drew Barrymore and director Steven Spielberg are in talks to make a sequel to Hollywood classic ET.<\/p>\n

Barrymore is anxious to resume her role as Gertie Elliot, but only if Spielberg, who directed the first film, agrees to oversee the project. Barrymore was six-years-old when ET: The Extraterrestrial shot her to fame in 1982.<\/p>\n

According to reports the sequel will see ET return to a now grown-up Gertie, desperate for help saving his family from extinction.<\/p>\n

\u201cDrew has spoken to Steven about it,\u201d a Hollywood insider said. \u201cAlthough he thought she was joking at first, he\u2019s actually giving it serious thought.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDrew thinks the world needs another feelgood movie like ET right now and she\u2019s prepared to work with Steven to make it happen.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Presumably Drew is not criticizing Spielberg\u2019s more recent films, like War of the Worlds<\/a><\/i>, which haven\u2019t been all that \u201cfeelgood\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
