NBC aired another TV spot for A.D.<\/a><\/i>, the follow-up to the History Channel miniseries The Bible<\/a><\/i>, during the Super Bowl today. Check it out below the jump.<\/p>\n

This is a clever intro that links the football-themed context of the ad with the religious themes of the series by harking back to Oliver Stone\u2019s football movie Any Given Sunday<\/i> and setting up the clip in which a soldier says the tomb of Jesus is empty.<\/p>\n

\nTHAT IGNITED A REBELLION
\nAND CHANGED THE WORLD<\/center>\n

Now what\u2019s this \u201cignited a rebellion\u201d business? Is it referring to the Zealots, who will be a major part of this series? If so, then it doesn\u2019t seem likely that the execution or resurrection of Jesus played any part in igniting that<\/i> rebellion. Or is it referring to the early Christians? It\u2019s not uncommon for people to say that Jesus and his followers were \u201crevolutionary\u201d in some sense, but \u201crebellion\u201d has a sharper connotation than that. Chalk it up to the producers\u2019 tendency to emphasize violent conflict.<\/p>\n

Incidentally, the song that plays through the ad is Kelly Sweet\u2019s cover of Phil Collins\u2019 \u2018In the Air Tonight\u2019. This is at least the third TV show to use this track in its ads, following the NBC series Believe<\/a><\/i> and the Lifetime movie Petals on the Wind<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n
