<\/a><\/p>\nFrom the beginning, Of Kings and Prophets<\/a><\/i> has been billed as a story \u201ctold through the eyes of a battle-weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd\u201d. Since then, we have learned who will be playing the king<\/a> and the shepherd<\/a> \u2014 and now, at last, we know who is playing the prophet.<\/p>\n Deadline<\/a> reports that Mohammad Bakri, an Israeli Arab of Palestinian descent, will play the prophet Samuel in the pilot episode, which could turn into a series.<\/p>\n This is not the first biblical character Bakri has played.<\/p>\n Nearly thirty years ago, he played the queen\u2019s cousin Mordecai in Amos Gitai\u2019s Esther<\/a><\/i>. That film, which blurred the lines between the ancient and modern worlds, ended with the actors discussing their own stories of being forced to move from one country or culture to another, and Bakri said he was disappointed with Mordecai for using his position within the palace to encourage reprisal killings<\/a> of the Jews\u2019 enemies.<\/p>\n Bakri also played Herod in last year\u2019s The Savior<\/a><\/i>, an Arabic production directed by Palestinian filmmaker Robert Savo and shot in Jordan and Bulgaria. The film is supposedly based on Luke\u2019s gospel \u2014 just like Campus Crusade\u2019s Jesus<\/a><\/i> film \u2014 but the trailer below indicates that it may also include Jesus\u2019 meeting with the Samaritan woman from John\u2019s gospel and Judas\u2019s suicide from Matthew\u2019s gospel:<\/p>\n
