They are currently aiming to release the sequel in two years. \u2014 <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.variety.com\/article\/VR1118001885.html?categoryid=10&amp;cs=1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Variety<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">2.<\/a> Paramount has released new trailers aimed at the action-movie and kid-friendly crowds, and the ads contain new images of pointy-eared babies and planetary destruction, among other things. \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/trekmovie.com\/2009\/03\/23\/watch-new-star-trek-movie-commercial-download-hd\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">TrekMovie.com<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/trekmovie.com\/2009\/03\/29\/see-star-trek-kids-trailer-aired-during-kids-choice-awards-w-analysis-pine-appearance\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">x2<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"3\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">3.<\/a> Some of my fellow Trekkies, incidentally, have complained that all the planetary destruction feels too much like <i>Star Wars<\/i> \u2014 the Death Star and all that \u2014 and not very much like <i>Star Trek<\/i>. But to that, I would reply that the villain in one of the previous movies, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/star-trek-xi-to-bring-back-spock-and.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Star Trek: Generations<\/a><\/i> (1994; <a href=\"http:\/\/artsandfaith.com\/index.php?act=findpost&amp;pid=43048\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">my comments<\/a>), wiped out not just planets but entire <i>systems<\/i>, and of course the original series included episodes such as \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/memory-alpha.org\/en\/wiki\/The_Doomsday_Machine\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Doomsday Machine<\/a>\u2018, in which the destruction of entire planets might not have been <i>shown<\/i>, presumably for budgetary reasons, but was certainly part of the <i>plot<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"4\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">4.<\/a> Speaking of planetary destruction, the third and fourth issues of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2009\/01\/newsbites-comics-and-fantasy-edition_21.html#2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Star Trek: Countdown<\/a><\/i> have shown how the loss of his homeworld turned the Romulan character Nero into the revenge-seeking villain that we will see in the movie. \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aintitcool.com\/node\/40444\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ain\u2019t It Cool News<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/trekmovie.com\/2009\/03\/18\/trekink-review-star-trek-countdown-3-reveals-big-backstory-points-for-star-trek-movie\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">TrekMovie.com<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/trekmovie.com\/2009\/03\/26\/five-page-preview-of-star-trek-countdown-4-comic\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">x2<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/trekmovie.com\/2009\/04\/01\/review-star-trek-countdown-4-more-clues-to-star-trek-movie-revealed\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">x3<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"5\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">5.<\/a> Paramount has also released several images from the upcoming set of movie collector\u2019s cards made by Rittenhouse \u2014 and some of those images seem more spoiler-ish than anything we have seen so far. \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/moviesblog.mtv.com\/2009\/03\/30\/star-trek-trading-cards-reveal-orion-slave-girl-vulcan-salute\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">MTV Movies Blog<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/trekmovie.com\/2009\/03\/30\/new-images-from-star-trek-movie-from-rittenhouse-card-set\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">TrekMovie.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"6\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">6.<\/a> The town of Vulcan, Alberta \u2014 which I visited with my family <a href=\"http:\/\/filmchatblog.blogspot.com\/2007\/09\/newsbites-deadly-expelled-indiana.html#6\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">two years ago<\/a> \u2014 was hoping it could host the world premiere of the new movie, and they even had Leonard Nimoy himself campaigning on their behalf, but alas, it was not to be. For one thing, the town doesn\u2019t even have a movie theatre. No worries, though; the studio says it will arrange a screening for the residents of Vulcan in nearby Calgary.
