It\u2019s been an interesting week for fans of Disney\u2019s Fantasia<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n
First, Disney-Pixar released a teaser for The Good Dinosaur<\/a><\/i> \u2014 and a key moment in it just happens to pay homage to the \u2018Rite of Spring\u2019 sequence in the earlier film.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\nHere is the key shot from that teaser:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2015\/06\/gooddinosaur.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2015\/06\/gooddinosaur.jpg\" alt=\"gooddinosaur\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-32831\"><\/a><\/p>\nAnd here are the key shots from Fantasia<\/i> to which this image pays homage:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2015\/06\/fantasia-riteofspring2.png\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.production.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/files\/2015\/06\/fantasia-riteofspring2-300x225.png\" alt=\"fantasia-riteofspring2\" width=\"296\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-32847\"><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2015\/06\/fantasia-riteofspring1.png\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2015\/06\/fantasia-riteofspring1-300x225.png\" alt=\"fantasia-riteofspring1\" width=\"296\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-32848\"><\/a><\/p>\nSecond, it was announced that Disney is developing a live-action version of the \u2018Night on Bald Mountain\u2019 sequence from Fantasia<\/i>.<\/p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/disney-adapt-iconic-fantasia-sequence-799554\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/i> says the new film\u2019s approach will be \u201csimilar to what Disney did with Maleficent<\/i>\u201d, which makes one wonder if the new film will suggest that the demonic <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chernobog\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Chernobog<\/a> was really just a poor, abused, misunderstood fairy.<\/p>\nAnyway, this wouldn\u2019t be the first time that Disney has made a live-action film based on a sequence from Fantasia<\/i>. Five years ago, they released The Sorcerer\u2019s Apprentice<\/i>, a modern-day story starring Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel that had very little in common with the Mickey Mouse sequence in Fantasia<\/i> but did pay homage to it, in a scene where Baruchel\u2019s mops are out of his control and flooding the room.<\/p>\nIn addition to that film and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/maleficent\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Maleficent<\/a><\/i> (the latter of which was a subversive retelling of Sleeping Beauty<\/i>), over the last twenty years the studio has produced live-action versions of 101 Dalmatians<\/i>, Alice in Wonderland<\/i>, Cinderella<\/i>, The Jungle Book<\/i> and Beauty and the Beast<\/i>, the last two of which are still in production. Disney is also developing live-action versions of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/tim-burton-direct-live-action-780397\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Dumbo<\/a><\/i>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/disney-developing-live-action-mulan-784892\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mulan<\/a><\/i>, <a href=\"http:\/\/deadline.com\/2015\/04\/pinocchio-inspired-live-action-film-being-developed-at-disney-1201406564\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Pinocchio<\/a><\/i>, <a href=\"http:\/\/deadline.com\/2015\/04\/winnie-the-pooh-disney-live-action-feature-alex-ross-perry-1201392427\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Winnie the Pooh<\/a><\/i> and, again, 101 Dalmatians<\/i> (though this new version will be called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/disney-preps-live-action-cruella-639169\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Cruella<\/a><\/i>). <\/p>\nProps to my friend <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DecentFilms\/status\/605820336387424256\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Steven D. Greydanus<\/a> for catching the Fantasia<\/i> homage in The Good Dinosaur<\/i>.
