{"id":34191,"date":"2015-07-16T14:24:30","date_gmt":"2015-07-16T21:24:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/?p=34191"},"modified":"2015-07-17T00:13:10","modified_gmt":"2015-07-17T07:13:10","slug":"killing-jesus-gets-an-emmy-nomination-a-d-doesnt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2015\/07\/killing-jesus-gets-an-emmy-nomination-a-d-doesnt.html","title":{"rendered":"<i>Killing Jesus<\/i> gets an Emmy nomination, <i>A.D.<\/i> doesn&#8217;t"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2015\/07\/killingjesus-jesushands.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2015\/07\/killingjesus-jesushands-1024x284.jpg\" alt=\"killingjesus-jesushands\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-34206\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Big-screen Bible movies may have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2015\/01\/oscar-nominations-my-own-two-bits-and-a-complete-list-2.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">snubbed completely<\/a> at the Oscars this year, but at least one made-for-TV Bible film got some recognition from its peers when the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emmys.com\/events\/2015-emmy-nominations-announcement\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Primetime Emmy Award nominees<\/a> were announced this morning.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/killing-jesus\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Killing Jesus<\/a><\/i>, which premiered on the National Geographic Channel four months ago, was nominated for Outstanding Television Movie, along with <i>Agatha Christie\u2019s Poirot: Curtain, Poirot\u2019s Last Case<\/i> (Acorn TV), <i>Bessie<\/i> (HBO), <i>Grace of Monaco<\/i> (Lifetime), <i>Hello Ladies: The Movie<\/i> (HBO) and <i>Nightingale<\/i> (HBO).<\/p>\n<p><i>Bessie<\/i> has 12 nominations altogether whereas none of the other films in that category have more than two, plus <i>Bessie<\/i> beat <i>Killing Jesus<\/i> at the Critics Choice Television Awards in May, so it would seem that <i>Bessie<\/i> is the film to beat here.<\/p>\n<p>There were no nominations for Lifetime\u2019s <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/red-tent\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">The Red Tent<\/a><\/i>, Up TV\u2019s <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/ark-2015\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Noah\u2019s Ark<\/a><\/i>, CNN\u2019s <i>Finding Jesus<\/i> or NBC\u2019s recently-cancelled <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/ad-beyond-the-bible\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">A.D. The Bible Continues<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, however, CBS\u2019s <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/dovekeepers\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">The Dovekeepers<\/a><\/i> \u2014 which isn\u2019t technically a Bible movie but <i>does<\/i> take place in first-century Judea and was produced by <i>A.D.<\/i>\u2019s Mark Burnett and Roma Downey \u2014 got a single nomination for its main-title theme music.<\/p>\n<p>Burnett and Downey\u2019s miniseries <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/bible-2013\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">The Bible<\/a><\/i> was nominated for three Emmys in 2013 \u2014 miniseries or movie, sound editing, and sound mixing \u2014 but it lost in two of those categories to <i>Behind the Candelabra<\/i> and in the third to <i>American Horror Story<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s winners will be announced on September 12 and September 20.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey&#8217;s TV shows set in first-century Palestine <i>was<\/i> nominated for an Emmy this morning.
