The first trailer for The Young Messiah<\/a><\/i>, the film based on Anne Rice\u2019s novel Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt<\/i>, is here. Check it out below the jump.<\/p>\n
Here is the trailer itself:<\/p>\n
<\/iframe><\/p>\nI especially like how the trailer quotes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+2%3A5-11&version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Philippians 2:7-8<\/a>, a passage from one of Paul\u2019s epistles that many scholars think is based on an even earlier Christian hymn.<\/p>\nHowever, while the passage emphasizes the self-emptying of Jesus \u2014 that is, how God the Son made himself nothing to become human \u2014 the trailer indicates that the film will show Jesus performing miracles at a very young age, instead of waiting until he is an adult as many Christians believe he did (based on passages like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=john+2:1-12&version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">John 2:11<\/a>).<\/p>\nThis suggests that, as far as the film is concerned, Jesus may have emptied himself insofar as he doesn\u2019t seem to be aware<\/i> of his divine origins \u2014 he emptied his mind<\/i>, in other words \u2014 but he did not empty himself of his power<\/i> all that much. Jesus may still have to grow \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+2%3A52&version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">in wisdom and stature<\/a>\u201d, but not necessarily in other ways.<\/p>\nThen again, the trailer does show Mary telling<\/i> Jesus to wait before showing his power again. So the idea that he waited is reflected in the script in some<\/i> fashion.<\/p>\nMary also mentions in the trailer that she was 14 years old when she gave birth to Jesus, and that a \u201clight\u201d spoke to her at the Annunciation. I am curious to see if any of the hardcore literalists out there will object to the fact that she consistently calls this light \u201cit\u201d, and that she never explicitly calls this light an \u201cangel\u201d or \u201che\u201d.<\/p>\nAnd, of course, the trailer focuses on the Roman officer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2015\/03\/christ-the-lord-out-of-egypt-to-star-sean-bean-and-more.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">played by Sean Bean<\/a>, who is apparently told by one of the Herods to track down Jesus.
