Looks like Martin Scorsese really is<\/i> going to make that adaptation<\/a> of Shusaku Endo\u2019s Silence<\/a><\/i> that he\u2019s been talking about for years.<\/span><\/p>\n

A few days ago<\/a>, it was reported that he was thinking of shooting the film in New Zealand (and not, alas, Vancouver<\/a>).<\/p>\n

And now, tonight, Variety<\/a><\/i> reports that he is actively talking to Daniel Day-Lewis, Benicio Del Toro and possibly Gael Garcia Bernal about starring in the film, which concerns the persecution of Jesuit missionaries in 17th-century Japan.<\/p>\n

Day-Lewis previously worked with Scorsese on The Age of Innocence<\/i> (1993) and Gangs of New York<\/i> (2002).<\/p>\n

So far, no one has mentioned Leonardo DiCaprio\u2019s name in connection with this movie.
