Well, that didn\u2019t last long.<\/p>\n
Star Trek into Darkness<\/a><\/i> ended with a declaration that now, at last, after two movies, the Enterprise<\/i> was finally going to embark on its five-year mission, just like the starship in the original 1960s TV series. This morning, the teaser for the next movie arrived \u2014 and practically the first thing it does is destroy the ship:<\/p>\n
<\/iframe><\/p>\nNote the Beastie Boys\u2019 \u2018Sabotage\u2019, which I believe is the same tune that young Kirk was blaring when he stole his stepfather\u2019s (actually his father\u2019s) car in the 2009 film.<\/p>\nNote also the oppressively heavy use of <a href=\"http:\/\/priceonomics.com\/why-every-movie-looks-sort-of-orange-and-blue\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">teal and orange<\/a> in the title cards.<\/p>\nThis isn\u2019t the first time we\u2019ve seen the Enterprise<\/i> destroyed in a movie\u2019s trailer, of course \u2014 but it looks like a first-act development in the new film, whereas in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/star-trek-iii-the-search-for-spock\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Star Trek III: The Search for Spock<\/a><\/i> it came much later and was thus more of a spoiler:<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Star Trek III - The Search for Spock - Trailer\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_RhE5VhUkRk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\nMeanwhile, we also have our first public trailer for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/x-men-apocalypse\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">X-Men: Apocalypse<\/a><\/i>, in which an ancient mutant claims that he was the inspiration for some deities who aren\u2019t worshipped that much any more, like Ra, as well as some deities who are still quite central to some of the world\u2019s major religions, like Krishna and Yahweh:<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"X-Men: Apocalypse | Teaser Trailer [HD] | 20th Century FOX\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/COvnHv42T-A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\nI don\u2019t have much to say about this that I didn\u2019t already say in a post I wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2015\/07\/x-men-apocalypse-buzz-is-god-the-villain-is-nightcrawler-no-longer-a-catholic-heres-why-im-not-worried-yet.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">back in July<\/a>, when an earlier trailer was shown to the fans at Comic Con.<\/p>\nNaturally, both of these films are connected on some level to the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/star-wars-episode-vii\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Star Wars<\/a><\/i> movie that opens on Thursday.
