The Jungle Book<\/b><\/i> has reached the top, and it won\u2019t stop \u2014 the \u201clive-action\u201d remake of Disney\u2019s 1967 cartoon was the top draw at the box office for its third consecutive week, earning more this weekend than all the new releases combined.<\/p>\n

The film is estimated to have grossed $42.4 million between Friday and Sunday<\/a> \u2014 a drop of only 31% from last week \u2014 for a domestic cume of $252.1 million.<\/p>\n

That gives the film the best third weekend of the year, beating the $37.2 million that Zootopia<\/i> earned in March<\/a>. It\u2019s also the seventh-best third weekend<\/a> ever.<\/p>\n

The Jungle Book<\/i> has earned another $432.7 million overseas for a worldwide total of $684.8 million \u2014 well ahead of Disney\u2019s live-action remake of Cinderella<\/i> (2015, $543.5 million) but still a bit behind Maleficent<\/a><\/i> (2014, $758.5 million).<\/p>\n

The week\u2019s three main newcomers \u2014 Keanu<\/b><\/i>, Mother\u2019s Day<\/b><\/i>, Ratchet & Clank<\/b><\/i> \u2014 all opened softly, between $4.8 million and $9.4 million each.<\/p>\n

If audiences and exhibitors seem to be avoiding new releases right now, that could be because they\u2019re waiting for next week\u2019s big blockbuster. Captain America: Civil War<\/b><\/i> \u2014 which opens in North America this coming Thursday night \u2014 opened a week early overseas and earned $200.2 million<\/a> in 37 territories this week.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in other box-office news\u2026<\/p>\n

Zootopia<\/b><\/i> grossed $5 million and ranked sixth in its ninth week, thereby raising its domestic cume to $323.5 million. The film has earned another $607.9 million overseas for a global total of $931.4 million, which is still the year\u2019s best worldwide.<\/p>\n

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/b><\/i> grossed $3.8 million and ranked ninth in its sixth week. After six weeks in theatres, the film has earned $325.1 million \u2014 which is still not yet double the $166 million that the film made in its first weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Batman v Superman<\/i> has earned another $537.8 million overseas for a global total of $862.9 million \u2014 well under the billion-dollar mark the studio was aiming for.<\/p>\n

Miracles from Heaven<\/b><\/i> grossed $525,000 and ranked 16th in its sixth week, for a domestic total of $59.7 million. It has earned another $8.1 million overseas.<\/p>\n

There was no estimate for God\u2019s Not Dead 2<\/b><\/i> this week. As of Thursday, the film had earned $19.3 million in North America and another $2 million overseas<\/a>.<\/p>\n
