Last Days in the Desert<\/a><\/i> \u2014 starring Ewan McGregor as both Jesus and Satan \u2014 has been described as a story about fathers and sons. Two days ago, the first clip from the film showed Jesus meeting a father<\/a> played by Ciaran Hinds. Now the second clip shows Jesus talking to the man\u2019s son, who is played by Tye Sheridan.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A few more interview pieces have popped up since the last update, too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/religionnews.com\/2016\/05\/04\/ewan-mcgregor-explores-the-humanness-of-jesus\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Religion News Service<\/a> spoke to McGregor and writer-director Rodrigo Garcia:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Garcia had considered making \u201cLast Days in the Desert\u201d in Israel with Israeli actors speaking in Hebrew, he said. He\u2019d considered making it in Mexico with Mexican actors speaking in Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>But, he said, \u201cThere\u2019s something that always comes ahead of whatever formula you have, which is who is going to play the role best?\u201d After spending a holiday with McGregor and mutual friends over Christmas, Garcia said, he realized \u201che\u2019s the guy.\u201d . . .<\/p>\n<p>And, Garcia said, \u201cOne of the most satisfying reactions we\u2019re having from Christian audiences is that they feel this is a real flesh-and-blood guy who is Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not a great fan of those movies where you have this starry-eyed Jesus who barely seems human. And I also thought if he is in fact human, then the mission and the sacrifice are all the greater. If you are a god and only a god, then perhaps the Crucifixion is not that big a sacrifice. But if you\u2019re half human, it\u2019s a humongous sacrifice. So I just stuck to the human side, and so did Ewan.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(Incidentally, the film was shot in California in the end, but Garcia did cast one Israeli actor in the film: Ayelet Zurer, who plays Hinds\u2019s wife and Sheridan\u2019s mother.)<\/p>\n<p>McGregor and Garcia spoke to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/last-days-in-the-desert-ewan-mcgregor_us_5727c7e4e4b016f3789349d4\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Huffington Post<\/a> (and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/faithforward\/2016\/05\/a-very-human-jesus-ewan-mcgregor-on-playing-yeshua-in-last-days-of-the-desert\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">Faith Forward<\/a>, and probably other outlets, via a conference call) about the \u201cresponsibility\u201d of the role:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>At a recent screening of the film at a church in Los Angeles, the church\u2019s reverend said that the character of Jesus had altered his feelings about the gospel. McGregor\u2019s Jesus is empathetic, frustrated and often confused \u2014 not the infallible godhead we might imagine him to be.<\/p>\n<p>When HuffPost relayed the reverend\u2019s sentiments to McGregor, the actor let out a deep exhale and said he understood the responsibility that came with playing Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t approach something like that without being a little freaked out by the nature of it,\u201d McGregor said.
