The previous lowest was the $1,871 that <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/young-messiah\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">The Young Messiah<\/a><\/i> opened to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2016\/03\/box-office-the-young-messiah-has-a-smaller-opening-than-expected-and-zootopia-keeps-tracking-ahead-of-frozen.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">in March<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Turning to more mainstream fare, <i><b>Captain America: Civil War<\/b><\/i> raked in another $72.6 million in its second week \u2014 a drop of about 59.5% from last week\u2019s gross.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s on par with the second-weekend drops for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/showdowns\/chart\/?view=weekend&amp;id=avengersironman.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">the last two films<\/a> that featured Iron Man, i.e. <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/iron-man-3\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Iron Man 3<\/a><\/i> (58.4% drop) and <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/avengers-age-of-ultron\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Avengers: Age of Ultron<\/a><\/i> (59.4% drop).<\/p>\n<p><i>Captain America: Civil War<\/i> has earned $295.9 million in North America and another $645 million overseas, for a global total of $940.9 million. The film is currently behind ten other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/franchises\/chart\/?id=marvelcomics.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Marvel movies<\/a> in North America \u2014 including this year\u2019s <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/deadpool\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Deadpool<\/a><\/i> \u2014 but worldwide it ranks fourth, behind only <i>Iron Man 3<\/i> and the two <i>Avengers<\/i> films.<\/p>\n<p>The only major new release this week was <i><b>Money Monster<\/b><\/i>, a sort of satirical thriller about Wall Street and the media starring George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Jack O\u2019Connell, which grossed $15 million and ranked third for the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The film was directed by Jodie Foster and had easily the best opening of the four films <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/people\/chart\/?view=Director&amp;id=jodiefoster.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">she has directed<\/a>, beating the $4 million <i>Home for the Holidays<\/i> made in 1995.<\/p>\n<p><i><b>The Darkness<\/b><\/i>, a micro-budgeted horror film, also earned $5.2 million on American screens (it did not come out in Canada), which was good enough for fourth place.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in other box-office news\u2026<\/p>\n<p><i><b>The Jungle Book<\/b><\/i> grossed $17.8 million and ranked second in its fifth week, thereby raising its domestic cume of $311.8 million. The film has earned another $516.3 million overseas for a global total of $828.1 million.<\/p>\n<p><i><b>Zootopia<\/b><\/i> grossed $2.8 million and ranked sixth in its eleventh week, thereby raising its domestic cume to $331.8 million. The film has earned another $638 million overseas for a global total of $969.8 million \u2014 still the year\u2019s best worldwide, though <i>Captain America<\/i> will almost certainly pass it within the next few days.<\/p>\n<p><i><b>Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/b><\/i> grossed $535,000 and ranked 14th in its eighth week, thereby raising its domestic total to $328.2 million \u2014 which is still not yet double the $166 million that the film made in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2016\/03\/box-office-batman-v-superman-breaks-records-deadpool-becomes-the-top-grossing-r-rated-movie-ever-worldwide.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">its first weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><i>Batman v Superman<\/i> has earned another $540.6 million overseas for a global total of $868.8 million \u2014 well under the billion-dollar mark the studio was aiming for.<\/p>\n<p>There were no estimates for <i><b>Miracles from Heaven<\/b><\/i> or <i><b>God\u2019s Not Dead 2<\/b><\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Now for a bit of extra data on <i>Zootopia<\/i>\u2019s ranking among <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/genres\/chart\/?id=animation.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">animated
