The second Star Trek Beyond<\/a><\/i> trailer is here, and with it, a lot of new footage \u2014 though it doesn\u2019t really tell us anything we didn\u2019t already know from the first trailer<\/a>. The Enterprise<\/i> is destroyed, the crew are stranded on an alien planet, and somewhere in there Kirk rides an old-fashioned motorcycle. Check it out below the jump.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\nNote how the trailer re-uses footage from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/star-trek-2009\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">the first JJ Abrams movie<\/a> (indeed, it re-uses footage from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/2008\/11\/star-trek-trailer-now-with-more-spock.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">the trailers<\/i> for that movie<\/a>). If that recycled footage appears in the new film, then that will make at least two threequels this summer \u2014 the other being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/filmchat\/tag\/x-men-apocalypse\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">X-Men: Apocalypse<\/a><\/i> \u2014 that re-use footage from the original <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ew.com\/article\/2011\/06\/03\/x-men-first-class-preboot\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">preboots<\/a>.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/05\/startrekbeyond-trailer2.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-46184\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/05\/startrekbeyond-trailer2-1024x426.png\" alt=\"startrekbeyond-trailer2\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-46184\"><\/a><\/p>\nThe new trailer also perpetuates the <a href=\"http:\/\/priceonomics.com\/why-every-movie-looks-sort-of-orange-and-blue\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">teal and orange<\/a> colour scheme that we saw in the first trailer, and it beefs up the pink-red element that seems to \u201cbleed\u201d somewhat:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/05\/startrekbeyond-trailer1.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-46183\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/05\/startrekbeyond-trailer1-1024x426.png\" alt=\"startrekbeyond-trailer1\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-46183\"><\/a><\/p>\nHere is how that shot looked in the first trailer (note the guy in the background!):<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/05\/startrekbeyond-trailer3.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-46197\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/227\/2016\/05\/startrekbeyond-trailer3-1024x426.png\" alt=\"startrekbeyond-trailer3\" width=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-46197\"><\/a><\/p>\nMeanwhile, it was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/star-trek-beyond-debut-imax-896261\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">revealed today<\/a> that Star Trek Beyond<\/i> will have its world premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 20, on an outdoors IMAX screen with a live orchestra.
