The holiday season is upon us, and so, too, are the trailers alerting us to next<\/i> year\u2019s wanna-be blockbusters (and hit TV shows).<\/span><\/p>\n 1.<\/a> I showed a clip from Koyaanisqatsi<\/a><\/i> (1983) during one of my presentations at M.E.I. last week<\/a>, and afterwards a student asked me how he could track a copy down. The next morning, I discovered this new trailer for Watchmen<\/a><\/i> \u2014 and lo and behold, it uses music from Koyaanisqatsi<\/i>. So I went back and asked this student if he was looking forward to Watchmen<\/i>, and he said he was, and I had fun telling him about this connection:<\/p>\n http:\/\/l.yimg.com\/cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com\/up\/fop\/embedflv\/swf\/fop.swf I also get a kick out of this marriage of music and movie because I discovered Koyaanisqatsi<\/i> and bought its soundtrack in the late 1980s, right around the time I began collecting and reading comics in earnest (including Watchmen<\/i>). So the two things have been associated in my memory for a long, long time.<\/p>\n In related news, MTV Splash Page<\/a> has posted a couple of arguments for<\/i> and against<\/i> the revised ending of this movie \u2014 both of which have their merits \u2014 and the Los Angeles Times<\/a><\/i> has the latest story on the ongoing legal issues<\/a> surrounding this film.<\/p>\n 2.<\/a> Jeffrey Wells<\/a> has the new, action-packed poster for The Day the Earth Stood Still<\/a><\/i>, and he links to the Windows<\/a> and QuickTime<\/a> versions of the new, action-packed trailer for that film:<\/p>\n http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=c4GcHUKEX6o<\/a> The studio has also created a social-networking website called EarthVitalList.com<\/a>, where people can say what they would save first if the Earth were facing imminent destruction.<\/p>\n 3.<\/a> Ron Howard has confirmed<\/a> that the film version of Angels & Demons<\/a><\/i> will be a sequel, not a prequel, to The Da Vinci Code<\/a><\/i> (2006), despite the fact that the book version<\/a> of Angels & Demons<\/i> came first.
